actually if more of the devs post saying they are working on it, it will help more. Dev work is what gets the device attention and thus making it more worthy of its own forum ;)
 
True, but most of the fly-by-night devs I've seen that say they are willing to work on it are nothing more then porters and skinners. "Oh, I'll work on it once someone gets CM9 functional". Sorry, getting CM9 functional is the battle, not putting a skin on it and calling it "insert ROM name". The core group we having going right now seems to be the only ones that truly care at this point. When I see another dev step up and help fix either our bluetooth issue or getting data functional on CM9, I'll be extremely impressed.

I would love to help if I had the knowledge... the last rom work I did was back in the WM 6.5 leak days, and I didn't do much then really. I don't think I'd have anything to offer to android development without a crazy learning curve.

I'd probably reskin and call it "ReeseBoy ICS for the lactose intolerant" :P
 
So start reading. I knew jack about deving android before I bought the spec. I played around with my droid 1 a lot, but never got into the guts of it. Everything I've learned, I've learned from google. Yeah, I had a back round in linux before hand and that has helped, but everything is googleable. Right now I'm pulling down the source code for MSM, but it's taking for ever with my constant net drops. I plan on going thru and trying till I find something that works. Hopefully TDM beats me to the punch, but at least I'm trying. That's what we really need. People to try, even if it doesn't work.
 
I guess I'm not sure what an XDA forum would bring you that you don't already have here?

Is it just to get one or do you feel that developers are missing something here?
 
Personally I avoid XDA, most of the devs there can be outright rude (sometimes with good reason, but it's still unnecessary; Neph is a perfect example of a dev that can handle repetitive noob questions very patiently ;)) and as Neph mentioned many of them are not really even devs, just porters and themers... I will not install anything on my phone that was messed with by somebody that doesn't know what they are doing. We've had a few come and go here, making big promises that they couldn't deliver on, that would be a bigger problem on XDA. I say if someone's interested in deving for the Spectrum let them come here, where the core knowledge and experience already exists.
 
Thanks for the input. I was just seeing if there was room for improvement here. If someone has an idea for a way to improve things they can always shoot any staff member a pm or start a thread in the private chat with staff section :)

I think the biggest reason for having an xda forum for the spectrum would be to try and get the phone a bit more attention from developers. xda is more of a developers site and every highly respected and established developer does a majority of their work over there. Thats my understanding in why some want one.

I personally don't use xda and have forgotten my account name and password that brandonson112 made for me last june. I think it would be positive to have another forum for our phone but I don't think any other forum would become what we already have here. Android Central has an LG spectrum section and it's like a barren wasteland. For whatever reason this has become home for spectrum owners. I personally like this forum more than the others I've used. The ops on xda tend to make their threads a bit cluttered and hard to follow with all the different size text, and different colors, and 50 links in-bedded into the thread. It's a bit out of control IMO.

But I think that it couldn't hurt to have more forums for our little device. Plus now that we have ICS and our phone has decent specs, and sells for cheap, it may invite a few more devs onboard. Lets hope, I really would love to have cm10 :]

Well I think most of that has been covered, I feel AF is more of a users forum than a development forum. I mean look at how many links to xda or rootz gets posted here on how to do or fix something.

I have been on both sides of that. Some devs, or so they call themselves, are down right asshats. Other are just as helpful as I am, some are the post stuff poop type, some are umm... worthless, some are just after the fame and glory, some are just after donations of any kind with no real intent of doing anything other than kanging someone elses shyt n claiming it as their work. Which we have here way too much esp when some of us call them out as we see em... but thats a diff debate lol.

basically the more exposure, the more help and assistance we can get. ;)
 
I've seen some devs just come along for no real reason and port a rom to a phone just because. Maybe, oh hey you guys have ICS now, let me snip a kernel and a few libs from your rom , ok here's Paranoid Android, or AOKP, or Evervolv

I'm suddenly inspired. Thanks to your words, I'm going to learn the art of development. I really want to help and get hands on, and its compelling to the point where I want to learn. Now where do I start?

With CM, PA, or AOKP there is no reason to dirty port it when src is readily available. ;)
 
Which one of those is easiest to compile from source? I was thinking about compiling a PA ROM then port it over
 
I told the guys in the (intuition) thread too contact you guys for help, if not for you crack team of devs. The spec would be dead.
