Vpn question

I have a Roku tv with a fire stick installed. I need to use a VPN service in order to get certain channels that I use on kodi. But I don't know whether I should install the VPN on my firestick, my Roku TV, or both. When I'm using Kodi on my firestick, is it using the connection only from the firestick or will it use the connection from the television. I had to sign into my Wi-Fi on each. when I set up each device

Have you had any luck with this ?
I have tried a few vpn on the fire stick but I think there is some sort of compatability issue ,as non of them worked for me .
My issue is getting around the tether block by my network.
They are being tediously tiresome and starting to block anything that requires a usable amount of bandwidth! Like kodi I msg them on face book and i said" of course you need to have fair policy over band width all I need for a steady stream is max 3.5 Mbps not 50 [emoji28]. But I think zero Mbps is very unfair .

They even block kodi use on my handset now from 16.00 hrs every day .
But this is ok as a vpn takes care of that .but I cannot tether while running a vpn from my handset .
