Root [VZW] Device is unlockable via HTC dev site.

Yeah, I'm not even American and I know that the day VZW approve bootloader unlocking will be a good day to book a skiing holiday in the infernal realm ;)

Well I wanted this phone, but VZW was taking 6 months to put it out and I got an S4 instead. I was hoping the ONE would have better success on VZW

unfortunately, thats typical of vzw. they have an extremely fast, reliable network with excellent coverage, even in the middle of nowhere. if you find yourself "off the grid" and away from cities, theyre for you.

however, they are slow with new releases, and slow with updates due to the complexity of their LTE network and the integration of their apps into the OS. they dont allow unlockable bootloaders if they can help it. everything out since the rezound has been the same in that it works for the first lucky few to unlock on release day and then the option disapears.

inc 4g and dna at first were easily unlocked by changing CID,but that is now just as well protected as the radio secure flag.

looks like some exploits are still working,so keep fingers crossed for something to change CID and/or radio secure flag is released. it would be a shame for vzw users to not be able to experience what the rest of us have with this wonderful device!

With Sprint not releasing any updates they have very few choices also. Really only the GSM banded One's are enjoying all the glory

what i meant was oportunity to root :p

sprint is at least still letting you unlock their bootloader, and came out with the phone soon enuff for a bunch of folks to take advantage of an s off exploit :)

with sprint you can still unlock and flash a custom 4.1,4.2 or 4.3 rom. may be difficult for vzw owners that didnt unlock on release day unless some wort of workaround is found/released.

I'm hoping that with the wider availability of smartphones the average customer is getting more tech savvy and with that the demand for unlocked bootloader rises.
Remember back in the early 90's Compaq computers used to solder their parts to the board, so there was little chance of doing a simple upgrade like more RAM? The public became more aware, and if they did that in a PC today, no one would buy.
On another forum someone trying to set up their android phone messaged me for how-to stuff and didn't want to get blasted, like noobs do on XDA. Turns out he was an iPhone user for years and finally made the switch to android because of the freedom to unlock and customize.
