Vzw...

I don't think it's coverage, as maybe more of a system glitch occuring from time to time. Maybe you guys never noticed, but when you use the phone or send a text message, it drops to 1x. I think sometimes it takes a little bit for it to connect back to EVDO for various reasons.

I know it drops to 1X during a call, because of the way Verizon's network works. You can't have EVDO running at the same time as voice. Interestingly enough, text messages do not normally cause it to drop down to 1X long enough for the indicator to change. Or its only for a split second.

I just sent a text, and it went to 1X for a half second. Never really noticed that before.

Yeah you have to be watching to catch, but I *do* notice if I'm on a text-a-thon sometimes it seems reluctant to switch back to EVDO. However, it could just be the icon not changing back and I'm really back on EVDO already. Reason I think this, is when I send texts whiled browsing, I'll notice the speed dramatically decrease, then increase back to normal again, and the EV icon isn't back yet. Could just be lag in icon switching during heavy use.

The roaming agreements are overseen by the FCC, so not any time soon.

I remember from the buyout one of the stipulations was VZW had to honor the Alltel roaming agreements with Sprint, but I don't remember if they were for 5 years or more. still leaves 3-4 years minumum, just wondering. Do Sprint phones get EVDO in non-ex Alltel markets?

Good question. I really don't know the answer to that question

But in 4 year EVDO will be as relevant as 1x is now, maybe even less.

You have yet to explain yourself. What features do you want that are locked?

I know this was from a while ago, I don't post often, but what did you mean by "what features"?
wireless-n, 720p, wifi tethering (without the tether plan), full flash, FM TX, Full BT support... Now I know that most if not all of these are supported by now, but my point is that we have been 'unlocking' hidden features on these phones for a while. I guess I wasn't really pointing the finger at VZW alone, just wishing someone at VZW would do us a solid like they did at Sprint. I mean come on, an eng boot-loader, and a nice exploitable app shipped with the phone? I know they had their problems with that, don't know what came of that, but where was our leak love? That OTA leak is nice but I wont dare flash it until the devs take a good look at the true OTA.

And at the time of OP, I don't believe the droid x or the droid II were common knowledge. (to me anyway)

You are still complaining about features that just weren't there. There is no way to "unlock" flash other than Adobe deciding to support your hardware. Fill out the form for the android developers about features you want.

This is how better bluetooth support has come about in version 2.2.

Other complaints you have were about hardware that just wasn't there yet. There will always be a better phone out there. Sprint was the first to get the EVO, we were the first to get the Droid. Besides, your wait time was what? Two months?

There will always be an arms race when it comes to who gets the latest hardware. At least Verizon is wading into the fray unlike a little more than 3 years ago when the best you could get was the Voyager.

That is true, you didn't know about the Droid X and Droid 2. Most of your complaints are based on what you don't know and some of your expectations are unreasonable. Those features will be there, just not right this second and if you don't want to pay for tethering, I am right there with you. I don't like VZW basically putting a toll on the type of data you use, but it is their right.

It is also our right to go elsewhere if we don't like their phones or their opportunistic fleecing of people who just want to get their PSP/DS/laptop online for a bit. The only real way to make them stop doing things you don't like is to vote with your feet and hope that a significant number of people feel the same and do so accordingly. Unfortunately, it didn't work that well for AT&T.
