Sounds like you should be able to...just call-up your local store or one of their 800 numbers (I'm sure they'd be happy to talk with you about it, even if you are speaking generally and not as a primary account holder):

Customer Service
Dial *611 from your cell phone
(800) 922-0204
Monday-Sunday 6am-11pm

Sales
Consumer: (800) 256-4646
Business: (800) 899-4249

Cheers!

With a family plan the primary number on any Verizon account is eligible for upgrade on a yearly basis, the additional lines are only eligible every two years.

With BOGO offers, both of the lines must be eligible for an upgrade for it to apply. Now, there is nothing that says that they can't move that date though. Getting your dad to call VZW and asking is your best option.

My daughter and I got our Erii on a BOGO. They took both of our upgrades. Had been hoping my husband could take the unused upgrade to ditch his blackberry and get his own Android.

its hit and miss. A year ago when I upgraded to get my Eris, they took the upgrade, but didn't change the account date, so I got another upgrade this year.

Also, a family plan can have up to 5 lines. If your dad's account has less, he can simply open a new account for the free DInc and lat you have it. Usually, the VZW guys are cool and even if they can't move your specific line's date, they'll transfer your Eris number to the new DInc line.

If another line is added and a 'dumbphone' is not in the mix it can get pretty expensive, may not be worth the price of the 'free' phone.
It's (on a family plan) $45/month for a smartphone and $15/month for a dumbphone (depending on taxes etc, ballpark though). If your dad is going to add another line so you can get the DInc then do switch the Eris' number but THEN switch the Eris to a dumbphone if you have one laying around...unless of course someone can use it/pay your dad for it.

VRZ was having a 'quiet' promotion and moving upgrade dates but that was only if you were going to be adding a data plan. I'm not sure if they are still doing that but probably wouldn't in your case as they are not going to make any extra money off of you. lol.
