Wait or not to wait, that is the queston

I jumped in eyes closed on the Eris and Im kinda kicking my self. Now Im wondering if I should wait a couple days before running out to get the Incred.

I know there are people that have decided to be in line at 7 on Thursday but this time Im thinking Im gonna wait for some significant reviews to come out.
Anyone else feeling this??
 
No. People got them days ago by mistake without problems like the eris had. Plus, you do get 30 days to go back to old phone without restocking fee...
 
Afro is misinformed, you will have to pay a $35 restocking fee if you want to go back to your old phone if you get the Incredible or any phone for that matter.
 
^ No, if you exchange it for another you pay the restocking. If you go back to old, you don't but can't get another phone for 3 days. It says it on the back of the receipt. :rolleyes:
 
Almost every smartphone on the market (every one I can think of) has its quirks, especially at launch. The developers then release a fix a few weeks or months later and by that time, new hardware or a major software update comes out. The newer hardware seems sexier and better so we kick ourselves. The new software updates seem better so we cry for those and they introduce their own set of quirks. The earlier in the cycle you purchase, the longer you get to play with the "latest and greatest" . The later in the cycle, the more solutions to the quirks you might have, but you may not have the most up to date hardware or software. The smartphone market is moving so quickly that you have to choose between having the latest and dealing with the quirks or waiting and getting hardware that will be out of date or cannot run the latest software, but is likely more stable and well developed.

All of that said, Android as a whole is getting more solid. Talk of 2.2 is making me nervous and I actually wish Google would slow down. A solid stable version would be good for everyone. 2.1 seems to be close and the Incredible is possible the best out there running it right now. I don't think waiting would pay off right now if you want a new phone unless you are willing to go Sprint and the Evo. I think these 2 will be the premier 2.1 devices (possibly one of the Dell's along with them). After that, it will be a waiting game to see what 2.2 and new devices with that pre-installed will bring.

Side note, I had the Storm the day it came out, what a hunk of shat, sold it 2 months later. Got the Eris the day it came out, not as bad but still hardly the best in its class.
 
I'm waiting for one reason..there's been some reviews that have mentioned the Incredible has reception problems,low signal..I live in a marginal area and that would really suck..so I'm waiting to hear some reports once a bunch of folks have the phone...if its software fixable I'll probably get it as I've wanted it for months since hearing about it..if not then I'll wait a few more months till droid2 or something comes out..reception of calls is so basic but some manufacturers get so caught up in all the bells and whilstles they dont spend the few cents it would cost to have a good antenna..

Best buy does not charge a restocking fee and has instant rebates. I will never buy a phone from a brick and mortar verizon store again.

The only problem with buying them at a store is if you aren't one of the first few people in line when they open you stand a chance of making the trip for naught. Personally i'd rather just order online and wait for it to show up thursday morning. Fedex around here is good about dropping off shipments before noon so i'm not worried. Plus i get the online discounts and don't have deal with people face to face.
 
For number ports I'm not sure - it may have to be activated. If you already have Verizon then you just activate it on the Verizon activation website.

The reviews I've read say that it doesn't show a lot of bars but they haven't been complaining of dropped calls. It seems the software shows a low sigal when the signal is actually fine. All the reviews have said the call quality is very good so I'm not worried about the number of bars it shows.
 
When you get the phone it will come with a yellow sheet that takes you step by step to activate it. Your number will already be programmed into it so all you need to do is activate it. If you have issues just call customer service and within 3 minutes they'll have you up and running. Your old phone is automatically deactivated when you activate a new phone on the same line, so just keep your old phone somewhere where you can find it in case you need to reactivate it if your new phone needs replacement. Theres a good 3 days when you get a replacement where you will be without a phone otherwise if you don't save your old one. You only need 1 good phone to keep handy in case you need a replacement, i kept my lg decoy which gets great signal and never drops a call as my backup, just in case.
 
Well the thing is right now 4g coverage is so tiny that only 1% of all users even have access to it, so i'd wait until the coverage expanded alot more or verizon launches their 4g network. Of course once verizon launches their 4g network they will need handsets that are able to take advantage of it, so i wouldn't worry about 4g for now. For the next 2 years 3g is about as good as its going to get, and its not slow by any means, it certainly beats the data transfer rates on the 1st and 2nd generation data networks. I am getting the incredible and then waiting until i can upgrade in 20 months, from there i will see if the 4g networks are in my area and then make a decision. But for the forseeable future i'd forget about 4g.

You have to activate it with the Verizon System. Your old service 'should' stay as is until you call verizon and activate the new phone.
 
I'm waiting mainly so more cases can be made. I like to have everything ready to go. I know when I get it everyone is gonna want to play with it and you really can never know how people handle things. I figure a month or two numerous cases shoudl be available.

Plus during that wait if someone finds some bug and they can stomp it out it'll be better. Only a small number of people have it. Obviously there's not enough of us to mess around with every little thing.

I had bought the Eris last week just to try out the Android OS (coming from Blackberry) and I noticed that in my house I had 1-2 bars showing quite often (normally I get a full signal w/my BB) but no one ever said I sounded bad, and I never dropped any calls. I just stopped paying attention to the signal bars... Maybe it's the same on the Inc...?
