If you're rooted then you should be able to text-edit the keyboard layout (.kl) file in your system folder, adding "WAKE_DROPPED" to the line for each key that you want to wake the phone. I'm not sure where that file will be located on you Huawei Ascend 2, or what the file name will be, but following is how you do it on a rooted Optimus.

For no reason, I wandered around looking for rooting an Ascend and found a recommendation for Poot.apk. So I downed it to my PC and may click it someday, hoping it’s the correct route for a Straight Talk Huwaei Ascend 2 Gingerbread 2.3.6.

Procedure is the same as using Poot on the Virgin Mobile Venture, IIRC. Seems like it should work fine for you.

FYI, Poot's developer is active here on androidforums, he worked with me to update Poot to work with the Venture and he's very nice (though I would spare him the basic tech support questions, search and then ask in a thread).
