Wake up during call

vanj14

Lurker
Verizon Moto X (Android 4.4.2)

When I am on a call (incoming or outgoing) and the screen sleeps afrer the sleep timeout, how can I get the in-call controls like speakerphone, mute button, number pad back?! Moving the phonea around to trigger the proximity sensor doesn't work, clicking the power button ends the call. What am I missing? This is extremely frustrating when on a long conference call where I need to mute and unmute.

Help? Thanks

There's a setting for whether the power button ends the call. Turn that off. Then the power button will wake the screen up.

I'm assuming you are speakerphone? Yeah, I haven't figured out how to wake it up besides hitting the power button. I have a lot of long work calls and need to mute/unmute too, sort of a PITA to have to hit power.
If you are not on speakerphone then the sensor should kick in when you move the phone away from your face. If that's not happening...do you have a case or screen protector that may be covering/blocking the sensor?

Another data point ... I could not reproduce this problem on my Droid Maxx when on speaker. For me pressing the power button brings the screen back on without disconnecting.

The setting for this is in settings / accessibility / Power button ends call.

I've never tried this in a speakerphone call, but will the display wake if you hold the phone to your face (like you were using the earpiece) momentarily and then move it away? Or put your finger over the prox sensor (to the left of the earpiece at the top of the phone) and then uncover it?

On the Moto X do you have the ... Settings | Accessibility | Power button ends call ... option that doogald and Rukbat mentioned?

If it's unchecked doesn't it do what you want?

On the Maxx ... checked it has this problem ... unchecked it does not have this problem.

Right. I believe the OP's must be checked and that's why (s)he can't use the power button to wake the phone while on speakerphone. They should just be able to uncheck it and all should be good.

I've had the same problem with the phone going to sleep during a call when using the speaker. I'm changing the power button setting to prevent it from ending a call. But, another option is to plug in a headset temporarily. It immediately wakes the phone.

Mine is having the same issue. Yes if you turn off power button you then can wake it up. That is a simple fix when I think the point of the matter is, if you have that feature on, the phone becomes locked unless the phone wakes up from a notification or to actually hang up the call. There has to be a way to wake it up without hanging up....
