The Supernova ROM ships with just the default HTC wallpaper installed and available. In Supernova I found "htc_wallpaper_01.jpg" located in "system/customize/resource". Having extracted the wallpapers from my Froyo nandroid backup (location was the same), I copied them into that location, checked and changed permissions to reflect those of the existing "htc_wallpaper_01.jpg". Going to Settings/Personalize/Home wallpaper/HTC Wallpapers, only the default wallpaper is available for selection.

Does anyone know how to correctly install the HTC Wallpapers into the Android system? Or how to make the system recognise them?

Use an app like Wallpaper Wizardrii. You can use any picture on the phone as your wallpaper. (If it's too small it'll look funny, if it's too large you'll only get part of it on the screen, but you can use any picture, and there's a little bit of cropping available in the app.)
