wanna flash but new

WAnna flash phone with 2.1 Rom , never done this before and was looking for advice , tips and what best Rom etc any advice be good , thx

What stage are you up to? Have you flashed a ROM before?

Two good ones to consider are the Villain 5.x ROMs and the SenseHero ROMs (Although the second is pretty heavily skinned).

Never flashed a Rom before , am happy to give it a try , got windows 7 on laptop will this hinder me ?

Nope, same situation as me.

Basically the steps are:

-The phone comes with a recovery menu, which you replace with a custom recovery menu.
-That recovery menu lets you create a nandroid backup of your phone (everything bar the SD card, do a factory reset, and then flash the newrom.zip from the SD card to the phone.

So the first stage is getting the recovery image installed, which can be difficult if you have one of the newer, patched firmwares. Essentially you use the flashrec program to backup your original recovery image and replace it with the new one.
