Want to go back to android...

Hi all,

I am from uk and I am an iPhone user since 2004 and have complete apple ecosystem. However I'm dreadfully bored with the iPhone.

I had htc one x for a short time. I was impressed but kept comparing it with iPhone. I decided to switch back to iPhone. After yesterday I wasn't not that overly impressed with the new iPhone. If I'm honest I do miss what I can do with the htc phone.

I have decided to have a proper look at the android phones.

I had Samsung note and not too keen on Samsung's IU. Maybe I need time to get used to it?

Basically I am wondering how others cope with the switch especially with those who invested in complete apple ecosystem.

Any phone to look out for and why?

I am seriously thinking of going back to htc one x (may get xl seeing that I'm with tmobile and may be able to take advantage of their 4G network) however I kept seeing people posting more problems with the HTC one x than SG3. Is this something I needed to bear in mind?

Does anyone know of a new phone coming out in October/November?

Thanks guys!

The Note 2 should be out in a month or so. It would honestly drive me away from my Galaxy Nexus.
With Android you can always change your home launcher which does quite a bit for the compete interface.
In addition there's the option of rooting and installing a stock Android ROM. Not possible with all phones, but most.

Thanks. Does apple email account work with android phone such as HTC and Samsung?

I am still undecided if should get iphone 5 and may be still be bored. Or venture to a new phone and hopefully it won't effect the ecosystem too much.

Any thoughts would be very welcomed.

The smart phone you are pointing(HTC one X) is one of my favorite devices. I have been using HTC Desire V and I am well satisfied with it, it is a nice phone you can have.

This is the dilemma of choice! :)

I'd love an S3 and EE are supposedly getting an LTE version in the UK, although I've no idea when.

Thanks guys and I am not sure what kind of impact this would have for my ecosystem.

I also use FaceTime quite a lot and tango doesn't seems to be that good at times. Ho hum....

Hmmm. The iPhone was only announced in 2007. It's amazing that you have been using one since 3 years before it was announced. :)

I upgraded from an HTC Desire Z to a Samsung GS3. It took me some time getting used to TouchWiz. I really liked Sense and found that TouchWiz was lacking in certain features that I really liked in Sense. I am getting used to it now. No deal breakers with TouchWiz, just missed a few things that range minor inconveninces to major annoyances, but no deal breakers.

Basically I am wondering how others cope with the switch especially with those who invested in complete apple ecosystem.

You will lose some things when switching from iOS to Android. Any paid for apps will not be transferred across to the Android equivalence. There is also a conversion process. Not sure of much hassle it is. When my wife switched from her Galaxy Q to an iPhone, it was a major pain transferring her contacts and ring tone over to her iPhone. You'll have to decide if it is worth it for you to switch.

I'm partial to HTC. I would have gotten the One S instead of the SGS3, but the one deal breaker was that 16 GB of storage was not enough for me and the One S had no expansion slot. The One X was not available to my carrier.

I'm not sure about the One X specifically, but I do find that Sense on my Desire Z to be rather sluggish. I haven't done a comparison with a comparable non-Sense device, so I have nothing really concrete. Sense does seem to have some nice features such as themes that tend to slow things down.

The SGS3 is a good phone in general. It is the most popular current Android phone around right now.

There will be new phones released all the time from many manufacturers. The next Nexus device is expected in the next few months.

I have the One X on T-Mobile (but unbranded) and I've never had any problems with it at all, Sense is really stripped back and the latest update 4.1 sorted out some niggles that people were having with the multi tasking (never bothered me) and improved the camera, beats audio and massive improvements to an already decent battery.

My wife has the S3 and I hate the UI and screen on it but I guess it's down to personal choice.

On the One XL and 4G, T-Mobile wont be offering it, it is called Everything Everywhere which is a joint venture between them and Orange, you will have to change company if you want 4G.

What are the key difference between Samsung G3 and HTC one x?
If a removable battery and expandable storage are something you need then go for the S3, for everything else get the One X.

I only have experience with the UK Tegra 3 version of the One X and the UK Galaxy S3 as I have both in my house (S3 is the wifes) and with each update the One X has pulled away a little more on performance. Battery which out of the box was terrible has been made amazing from 3 firmware updates, the S3 has a bigger capacity battery but the One X has a power saving core that makes up for it.

ICS on the S3 may as well be Gingerbread with the way it looks although this could be altered with a different launcher, I'm happy with the Sense UI but again it can be changed if you wish.

Looking at both phones on and together you see the difference straight away, the screen on the One X is that good it makes most other phones look terrible... in the last update HTC upped the FPS on the menus to make it look even better. On the S3 I don't know if it's the screen or the UI but it just looks old, like a huge galaxy apollo. On looks the S3 looks better in person than it does in pictures but it's still a cheap looking phone.

Performance both phones are amazing, the S3 does less demanding tasks slightly better (you'd need a lab though there isn't much in it) and the One X does games better, if you see GTA 3 running on both phones at the same time then you see how much different they really are.

Both amazing phones, more people prefer the S3 because out of the box with no updates it was better than the One X but I wouldn't swap mine for anything and can't wait to see it with JB.

Love my one x as well. My sprint branded one even has the sd card. Touchwiz looks like it was designed by Crayola.

;)

Thank you! That is very helpful.

Another question (I hope that's okay!)

Can I import my mac calendar and email to an android phone, and will that then sync with my iPad calendar/email so in effect I'm running both consecutively?

Any recommendations for websites for android newbies?

That was two questions, sorry!

I've never had an iPhone mate so I can't answer that, I have a feeling it isn't gonna be possible though.. I think you should maybe do another thread asking advice from recent ex apple owners and they should be able to help.

This is the only site you need :D

Thanks im sort of swinging toward to android despite having an apple Ecosystem. I am at Florida at the moment and not sure if it is a good idea to pick up an android phone here or wait until I get back to UK.

Phone is cheaper up here ho hum....

I am not impressed with IOS6 update at all so I am likely to go with either S3 or HTC one x.

Could someone remind me if there is an app to sync my photo on my android phone to apple's photo stream?

Going to have a look at three sim free phones tomorrow; iPhone 5, Samsung S3 and HTC one x.

Any advice or something that I need to consider?
