Want to save and run apps from MicroSD card, is this possible?

I recently upgraded my HTC Hero's micro SD card to 8 GB.

I know there is a way to save apps to the SD Card with the app called appSaver, however I was wondering once they are saved there, can I run them from there?

The reason I ask is that I only have 66 MB of space on my phone and this would help with performance.

I haven't heard of it before, but I'm guessing appsaver just backs apps up to the sdcard, rather than allowing you to run them.

You can run apps off the sdcard (which is called 'apps2sd'), but you have to root your phone and switch to custom firmware.
