Help Want to update, but...

Arty

Newbie
I still have that stupid, stupid DK28 running on my phone. I'm completely unsure of how I would go about getting my phone from that to the new release of today. Any tips would be immensely appreciated!!!!

OK, well, none of the links in that thread are active.

From the link in the second post in this thread...the one that links to the XDA... Some of the info, anything in bold, I am not sure if it is the right files or not...

1. Open odin

2. Put your phone in download mode (Shut it off, wait for lights to all go out, then hold 1 on the keyboard while powering up)

3. connect phone (you should see odin put a Com4 or something like that in the first box. The actual number is NOT important what is important is something popped up there when you connected your device, meaning ODIN can see it)

4. Select the pit file on the right in the pit section

5. In the PDA Section you place either the full Stock tar (SPH-D700-DG27-8Gb-REL.tar around 255mb) for a full wipe and full return to stock OR you place the SPH-D700.zImage.stock.tar which only flashes you back to the stock kernel.

6. check reboot on the left with DebugEn (only those should be checked)

7. Hit start. It will do its thing. Doesn't take long you can see the progress bar. If it sits on File Analysis for longer than 30 seconds its not going to happen. See the troubleshoot section below.

Device should reboot and should be done.

You will have to re root / install busy box.

Thanks, man. Now I can't get my computer to recognize my phone, no matter which driver I install :-(

Today REALLY is not my day.

Try restarting your computer. or Download the Drivers from Samsung's website.
Samsung

Once you click on that, then click Software in blue letters then click the zip icon on the far right.

Try a different cable. Try connecting it to a different USB port (preferably on the back of the computer).

I tried that as well. I"m 99.999% positive this is an issue with Windows, but just like with my phone, nothing has been going right today. Until I'm able to get things together to update Windows properly, does anyone possibly have any suggestions to keep things going smoothly?

And just FYI, I appreciate all the help I've gotten thus far immensely.

Then just hook the SD card up to the computer without having to plug your phone in, then you can manage everything there.

When you say that, do you mean adding the DI18 to my SD card as an "update" and taking it from there? Please excuse my ignorance, this is an honest question.

I looked back to see if I could what it is you are trying to do with your SD card and I'm not sure what it is you are trying to do? So can you tell us what it is that you need to do?

BTW
I really think it is your USB cable thats bad. I have seen USB cables that will charge but not pass data. I hook up phones all day long with USB cables and have seen this before.

Ohhh. I remember what you are trying to do now. You want to Odin back to DI18. The only way to do it is with the cord. You may have to get another cord and see if that works.

Actually, I'm trying to put everything on the phone itself and keep the SD card separate from the "updates"

The cable, though, I am unsure of how exactly to troubleshoot this, because I only have the one cable. Your idea certainly isn't unrealistic, but I'm currently unable to confirm nor verify this. Mainly because I lost my backup cable.

Ok now you lost me :) not hard to do I"m kind of slow lol:rolleyes:
What are you trying to move to the phone? and off of the SD card?

He wants to Odin back to DI18, but you can only do it with the cord.

Arty, Try finding another cord or using someone elses. That is all I can say at this point.
