Warning about tweetdeck beta!

After installing tweetdeck on my phone I let it run for about a day and a half. However after that short time I noticed my battery was suffering quite badly. So I took a look around my stats and also noticed that in that short time the program had used no less than 74mb of data!!! I rang my colleague who also installed it and he found it had used 100mb. And a fair bit of battery.

He has a nexus one I have a milestone. We went sniffing around their forums and found a few other users complaining of the same issue. So we've uninstalled for now. We've posted something up on their forum but as of yet no reply. Needless to say that sort of data usage is unacceptable. Especially when alot of carriers are getting rid of unlimited plans.

theres a variety of applications you can use that will monitor your data usage so that you can not go over your quota.

3g watchdog is one of the ones I've used thats fairly simple. have a google around to see the others.

I've had tweetdeck beta running all weekend and haven't noticed a jump in data usage. Strange.

@Jhaeh were you mostly on wifi? all 3 of us here at work who use it have checked our usage and seen it massivly jump due to tweetdeck. Also seems to be several users on there forums complaining of the same issue

I'm normally on WiFi for the majority of the time but this weekend I was out and about for about 8 hours and used roughly 2mb of data during that time, that includes FB, Gmail, weather and checking the football scores online. No idea why it would be different for me when you and 2 others have seen massive increases in data usage.

that is odd. Especially as theres others on their forum with the same issue.

Did you perhaps not get many updates during that time?

I have 90 odd followers and follow over 100 people so I'd have thought there would have been a fair bit of activity. I would have said that maybe it was because I was in Ikea where there's no signal but it would have still pushed the data through when I was back in the car. Very odd but I will definitely keep an eye on it now. Cheers for the heads-up.
