Warning-do not update firmware through kies

Hi folks,

I tried updating firmware through Kies. The update stalled and the phone software crashed

On giving the phone to the service center- THE SERVICE SOFTWARE ENGINEER WARNED NOT TO UPDATE FIRMWARE THROUGH KIES as there are lot of problems through it and he has got 16 cases of same since last one month.:(

Pls do not try this at home. If you want to upgrade then get it done through authorized service center. SAVE THE HEADACHE KIES MIGHT CAUSE.

has anyone tried it and had the problem? what did you do? pls do let me know if the phone can be recovered? :(

Thank you for your warning ajaynatu83 but to check its relevance to my setup would you please advise what firmware were you upgrading both from and to? Also, what version of Kies were you using?

To explain a little. For the last 6 months I have only used Kies to upgrade my Note’s firmware and it has done that without any problem at all. (before then I also used it to sync to Outlook but because it would sometimes mess up Outlook’s DB I then moved on to MyPhoneExplorer for syncing instead of Kies). However, when I connected to Kies this evening it performed an update to itself to v2.5.0.12094_28. It now looks quite different to my previous version and has more options for backing up etc. So, has the leopard changed its spots?

that is interesting which Note they have will als be good and I also got that new upgrade of kies since I was checking for 4.1. I think google have to get better with the upgrades let everyphone with spec be brought up to new firmware.

hi guys,

hmm where to begin,
when i first bought my note (dec last year) i had numerous issues getting my phone and kies to like one another, and as a result i ended up going down the root road as it was the only way i could upgrade my firmware, to cut a long story short lol, the one app i needed on my phone was not compatible with a rooted device so i gave kies one more try and it worked perfect, 2 upgrades later and yes , it still works fine for me.
as for update stalling! could this possibly have been an internet issue? maybe your net dropped out as the update was bieng downloaded? just a thought.

on the issue of service center, hmm business man saying "dont do it yourself, bring it to me" now wether you pay the service man or the service man gets paid from samsung as part of warrenty, either way they aint gunna do it for nothing, and you only have his word regarding the other 16 phones!!!

in summery i have had no issues with kies (once i got it to make friends with my phone lol)
it updated the last 2 times with out a hitch even removing my root etc and restoring my phone back to off the shelf state, so be very wary of what somebody who is getting paid to do the work says.
we have a fab community on here and i dont think there are any problems users have had with this superb phone that as a community we havent been able to resolve.

regards

Baz

thx Baz...
1> i hvnt rooted the phone. i just bought it 5 days ago n hvnt done anything to it.so i wonder it the problem is with that "particular update" or the phone.
2> there was no net drop issue during that time. i was on the pc during the upgrade working on something. so if it was i wud hv known.
3> rest 16 cases, well there were 2 other customers along with me too hving same problem. and the service engineer even showed us (2 customers n me) the rest 16 work cards hvin same "crashed during kies update" problem .so i m sure abt it too.

PiscesCloud... i
1> i hv neva done a factory reset or tried to root it myself or did a firmware upgrade before.
2> i did try the recovery too , it didnt go more than 2%!!!
3> about the "undiscovered built in susceptibility" for the hardware change does sound like y they want to change the hardware..thx for it, didnt think on those lines..

whteva happned yesterday aftnoon - i seriously hope samsung has a proper answer and not whistle my Q in the air- was it update problem or the mobile set issue. whatever it is ,it has left a customer in frustration who has shifted from BB to samsung after 5yrs.

I have never had and have absolutely no problem updating through Kies, and it is probably the most safe way to update your phone. Either your phone is faulty or maybe you misspelled something when you tried to update.

Hi folks,
Got my phone back today. Atlast software loaded back n phone working back as new.

Had a talk with the engineer about wht happened-
1-as he said before he received lots of complaints 2-3days before me. And that too when updating through kies. So as per him der must hv been some problem on kies update in india region. (again that is his guess work)

2-i told him the process i followed to update throug kies. As one of the member has said tht my method was wrong, well it was correct.so thts ruled out.

3-here in d thread v discussed about the phone having some hardware problem for which the engineer would hv had to change some parts. He did not find anython wrong in the set and so faulty piece is ruled out. (well cant hv 16 plus 3 us who came der with same complaint with faulty pieces)

4-about kies being the safest way to update,i agree 100% with ppl hving tht view. Even discussed same with the service center manager n engineers. All they said was it is safe but safest is through service center.(personally,i wud pefer to b on safest side than just safe and screw d software again)

5** - how many threads are there in here where the person has updated the phone themself and then found the phone not working??? MANYYYY... do u want to be part of that club?:hahaha: i dont want to anymore..........................

So...... For me atleast i wud prefer updating through serice center.:driver: A trip to the service center is better than beat my head after screwing d software.

I really thank everyone for their inputs and help  this is more help n suggestions that i expected. M really glad to c everyone pitch in.
Looking forward to see more help from everyone of u.
Thanx a ton again
