Help Warning ! Official Gingerbread Released For Orange UK

Hello All !

**WARNING**

Gingerbread is released for Orange UK this morning

I updated as usual and have discovered that the phone does not work correctly

DATA NOT WORKING

CANNOT SELECT 'GINGERBREAD' HOMESCREEN

JUMBLED HOMESCREEN - which reset cannot fix

(still 2.2.1 version)

FACTORY RESET DOES NOT WORK
(i.e reverts to 2.2.1 again)

I will contact Orange later today and will keep you posted but i am advising anyone NOT to update - it may just be a glich on my phone - but do you want to take a risk !

Exactly the same problem for me also, updated last night and now have no option to even select data connection which i used to do from the pull down menu on the front screen.
 
Not sure if Orange have done some sort of fix this morning as i just restarted my phone and the data connection is now working, likewise no GB homescreen though, although this is no big deal to me!
 
OK restart and data working fine.

One of my fav widgets, Dazzle toolbar, doesn't seem to work too well though.

Just noticed that looking at images with the gallery is way faster.
 
Phoned Orange and the technical dept was unaware that GB had been released!

After there tech guy asked me to run through some tests they can confirm that the update has some problems.
They are now investigating it and should issue a revised update soon.

My data fault suddenly fixed itself aftr multiple resets.
The main issue is that the correct GB Orange homescreen is missing and when you turn on the phone it keeps trying to reinstall it.
However the Samsung TW screen works and and is proper GB.
Accessed via Homescreen Selector

Orange confirm that there is an issue with the phone accessing the Orange CSC file.

Will post more news when available

Thanks for the update Nevy.

Tend to use the Sammy homescreen anyway.

GB does seem to be a bit nipper.

Found an alternative to Dazzle toolbar that works OK.
 
Orange tech have just called me back (6.00pm UK)

The update released through Kies is NOT the correct Orange version !!

Samsung have released it by mistake - and Orange say when the correct one is released you may not be able to update it again and may require returning to Samsung for re-flash.

The faulty version is:

PDA i9000bvjv7
Phone I9000bvjv2
CSC I9000RAJV5

**DO NOT UPDATE TO THIS VERSION***

Orange will release proper version asap

Hmmm, thats a bit of a strange response.

As the firmware is reported in Kies with suffix ORA this tends to suggest its an Orange firmware.

Anyway I've got it installed and seems to be working well so far.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens, I've contacted the Orange guys on Twitter to see if they have any info.
 
Not sure if anyone else has issues with the data connection, it works fine for five minutes or so and then it just dies, the only way to restore connectivity is to restart the phone, once this is done the cycle starts again for another five minutes or so etc....

What i told you about the wrong update is official from Orange !!!

It was a development version (for Orange) which Samsung released by mistake !!

This is why the Orange GB homescreen is missing - if you use the TW launcher homescreen and turn the phone off and on it tries to reinstall the missing Orange one (which is default)

Orange said that many people are having problems with a dead data connection (even though mine is working) - and basically said it it up to Samsung to 'fix' any dead phones as it is their responsability

Orange are concerned that phones with this update will not be able to upgrade to a newer version later on !!

I am taking my phone to local Samsung Service Centre tomorrow and they will put Orange 2.2 or 2.2.1 on for me - so i should be good for a revised update.

Antoeknee i will be interested if you have any feedback from Twitter !!

Hey, not doubting your info but you know that sometimes CS isn't always on the ball.

Anyway have had feedback from the guys on Twitter and there comment was that they knew of no such update.

TW Launcher works fine for me have turned off a couple of times and its come back OK each time.

Like you my data connection is working and seems to be somewhat better than Froyo.
 
I'm on Orange 2.2 still (JP8) - I have the option to update to JS4 when I connect to Kies (I think this is 2.2.1), but I did this before and found 2.2.1 to be very "buggy" on Orange. Internet browser would flicker, battery would drain overnight. So I got the phone replaced and haven't updated it since.

I've just tried to update to Gingerbread like you guys but I still only have the option for JS4. I guess Samsung have pulled the update. Can you remember what version you were on before you updated to GB?

Also - if you are going to get the phone re-flashed by Samsung, why not get a stock version of Gingerbread (i.e. de-brand the phone)? Will it cost you anything? Orange's software is useless - fills my phone with demo games and apps that I can't delete. :(
 
I was on 2.2.1 and to be honest it was very stable and reliable.

Battery life was good and data good. GPS was a bit iffy though.

GB seems to be working OK so far

Well the guys on Twitter didn't know of the update and have asked for info and will pass back to the team at Devises.
 
Do you have the Orange "bloatware" on your new Gingerbread version as well? By that I mean demo games (Sims, Bejeweled etc), Orange Wednesdays/Maps/Mail, Contact/Photo backup etc

Frustrates me that they can't be removed :( Keep hoping that they will see some sense and remove them for Gingerbread :D
 
After moaning about Orange in another thread re the wait for Gingerbread from them...I plugged my SGS into Kies yesterday and...Woo Hoo Gingerbread Upgrade Available! I went for it and put it on my phone.

Now I find it isn't what it should be and is faulty in some way :confused:

Hilarious? NOT! :mad:
 
Has anything actually gone wrong with it, or are you just fearing the worst?

I'm still on 2.2 (JP3 / JP8) - no option to upgrade to Gingerbread. What version were you on before you upgraded - JS4?
 
Took my phone to local Samsung Service Centre and they flashed the phone back to 2.2.1 (for free) - this was the advice from Orange Tech - so the phone is 'ready' for future a update

There are many reports all over the internet with people having the same issues with Data connection etc after updating to Orange 2.3.3 !

Oddly enough when i got back home i plugged my phone into my pc and Kies is STILL offering the same update !!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Ofcourse this time i declined)

So i am still unsure what is really going on - you would have thought that the update would have been pulled by now ?

I am going to wait for a while and see what happens - maybe i will call Orange next week for more information (if i can get through to them that is - they are very busy at the moment !)

From the little i have seen of 2.3.3 it is a fanastic update - so i am still keen to get it - i just want a version that works properly !!!!

What version of 2.2.1 are you on now? JS4?

How long did the service take? Surely you could have asked them to give you an unbranded gingerbread, rather than re-flashing Orange 2.2.1?
 
Back on the same 2.2.1 i was on 3 days ago - JS4 !!!

Basically i have 2 service centres about 20 miles radius from my home and they are called 'drop in' centres who do 'on the spot' repairs if possible.

There was someone else getting a SGS reflashed as well and it was done quite quickly while i waited (this included running a full test procedure).

Apparently they have to download the firmware direct from a Samsung server and they cannot alter, modify or unlock any handsets.

Even if they did you may still have problems with Kies and future updates - so i dont think it is worth doing it.

The Orange firmware is what it is - locked to Orange not SIM Free

Anyway the phone is still under warranty and Samsung are obliged to repair my phone for free - so i will not tamper with it.

So i am back on Orange 2.2.1 which is OK with me !!!

Will keep you posted if i get any more news

Phoned Orange again !!!

They said that the faulty update is still available on Kies (and not to install it)

They reckon the correct version should be released in a week or so !!!

We shall have to see what happens !!
