Was Galaxy Ace the right choice for you?

Well, i was just wondering whether you guys think you've made the right decision, this question goes out to people who have been using this phone for a couple of weeks, if you bought the phone yesterday you're obviously still very excited :p.

before i bought the phone i checked the internet for reviews and read some things about the ace but now i have to say these reviews didn't cover the real flaws of the phone so that was a waste of time.

flaws covered in reviews (the ones all reviews had in common):
- low screen resolution
- no flash
- no 720p video recording

i knew i didn't care about these things and i was right: the display is more than sufficient, just because that ridiculously high res of 480x800 seems to be standard nowadays doesn't mean 320x480 isn't enough. i never record videos with my phone. i also rarely play games or watch movies on my phone so flash is useless.

flaws that should have been covered but nobody mentioned:
- the phone was released too early, never owned anything with so many bugs, that's just really really poor practice. i knew samsung was bad, but seriously?
- not enough ram, even my previous phone, the htc wildfire had more
- touchwiz: i liked it at first because it doesn't look too shabby, but the app drawer is a mess. and why isn't the default screen in the middle? why? i don't have problems with unique design but i have with stupidity...
- it has a limited amount of internal storage, so why fill it with stupid samsung bloatware?

i got rid of my htc wildfire because it was too slow and because i updated to froyo which i think is still unrootable. BUT the phone was perfectly ok, everything worked like it should have even when it first came out, no SOD, no weird battery usage or anything. the ace is a completely different story: i'd have thrown it out of my window by now if i couldn't have flashed and rooted the latest android update.

to make this look less like a ranting post which it isn't (ok maybe against samsungs software policy and against online reviews of mobile phones), some things i really like about this phone:
- flashing the device worked like a breeze
- rooting was terribly easy
- it looks gorgeous, i love the white back cover :D (my main reason for buying it)
- it's good value for money
- it fits my hands perfectly

oh and is it normal that he sd card slot cover doesn't stick to the case very well?

The only thing i hate is no 720p.. Otherwise considering the other phones in this segment, ace is the best of them... Sure there are bugs but that's just firmware.. Its going to change so its stupid to think about that.. All in all i love this phone..

I'm pretty happy with the Ace, it actually surpassed my expectations.

I know it's a mid range unit, so I don't expect it to have huge memory or lot's of processing power.

I haven't found bugs in the phone, at least not yet.

I don't use it to store songs, so the memory is fine, so far. I would have liked more, but it isn't really necesary for what I use the phone for.

Screenwise, I find it pretty good, of course the more pixels the better, but the current screen is pretty good. Maybe having a higher resolution would make the phone a little slower (i don't know if it would be noticeable the speed difference).

I think i did the right thing buing this mobile phone it had 1 or 2 probs but then i found on this site how to fix it so i think this is best phone for this price range.:):)

I have been using Samsung Galxy Ace for 2-3 weeks now... on froyo it was but.. but its even better on Gingerbread.. i am happy with Screen, looks and everything else except that wifi does not work at all.. i mean i never got a chance to use wifi as it does detect the wifi network at my home but when i try to connect it gets disconnected immediately.. i thaught gingerbread update will fix it but i was wrong.. but a part from that the phone works properly.. it has good built quality.. i would says this is the best phone i ever bought.. :)

Its been about a month. and am completely satisfied.

AF camera with flash is a scent in gold.
I don't use 3G and video recording, so no complain.

One complain is screen visibility as sunlight.

and i am confused about whether this phone has electromagnetic compass or not. I've read about a dozen of reviews and 50% of them says it has and 50% says it doesn't.
Google sky map was able to detect the horizontal north pole without using GPS.

Also does the acclerometer work in 3 dimension like gyroscope? Because i am able to use it like a gyroscope in Google Sky map.

Oh yes this baby does have a magnetic Sensor and doesnt not have a gyroscopic, on on the other hand. Sky maps was able to detect north aye? So doesnt that tell you something regarding the magnetic sensor? :p
however you could donwload "Android Assitant" from the market place, that'd clear your doubts anyway ;)
Cheers!

@Rupeshgw

What router are you using at home? Our SGT has problems with our old Linksys router but works fine with everything else.

*Flash is lack of the phone for me, cuz I want to use internet efficiently but I can't, some explorers support flash(like puff) but CPU isn't enough for flash.

*On 2.2 video records were 320x240, That's crushed but when update to 2.3.4 it is 640x480, I hope It will be 720p but didn't :( Even though that , It's enough for me:)

*Phone Memory is 180 MB damned :)
*Phone RAM isn't high but it's enough.

Soooo It's wonderful phone :D

Had my Ace for couple of weeks, used to have a Blackberry.

I'm impressed with the quality of this phone, gorilla glass etc (not indestructible, but good to have on a device).

I bought a 16gb micro sd from amazon and a gel cover.

Now have all my music on the phone, using doubletwist to play it.

My Blackberry and i-podge were both sold to offset purchase price.

Looking forward to improvements with gingerbread, but going to wait for official release, don't want to void warranty as my upgrade not due until nov 2012.

For the price this is a great android phone, a vast improvement on the touch screen phones I had and hated a few years ago.

Been using mine for a couple of months now and i'm very satisfied with it. My previous phone was a Nokia C6-00 and i have to say...it wipes the floor with it (symbian is just not in the same league as android). Sure it's not one of those high-end, dual core android phones but it does almost everything i need.

The inability of flash 10.3 to work is not a deal breaker for me since i don't need it. The low screen res (compare to say a Galaxy S II) is no big deal for me either and ever since upgrading to Gingerbread 2.3.4 the video recording resolution has been bumped up to 640x480 which is more than adequate for me since i hardly record videos on my phone (or any other phone i've owned) anyway.

Spec-wise the Galaxy Ace is on par with, and in some aspects, better than the iPhone 3GS. In my opinion anyway.

Best bang for the buck for sure. Slightly uncomfortable to my ear (because of that rim, should be more rounded IMO), other than that, beautiful and sleek design. OK, no 720p, no higher res, SAMOLED screen, only 180 MB internal memory, but for that price... 0 complaints. Waiting official 2.3 upgrade :P

You are absolutely true...just after somedays of releasing Ace, Samsung launched galaxy SL which is far etter than this...

in this mid range of Android I can say this is the best one....
but it could have been better. Having some flaws which are serious for a smartphone
* Battery is freaky --- mine need to recharge twice a day
If u ll use internet through GPRS (forget abt Wi-Fi) battery lives for max 3 to 4 hr.
* Internal memory is a big concern as now a days max apps come bit bigger
* Yes its RAM also low, my phone hangs on and restarts a lot of time if I am going to
use more than 2 to 3 apps at a time.
* Processor also bit slow, it hangs on manytimes.
* Lack of Adobe Flash is also a very big concern for a greated customer group(atleast
they should provide as most of today's web full of flash and everybody want to play
videos in the browser)
# This could not be counted as a flaw but it would be good if this divice comes with a
front cam.

Other than these, the phone is really a good device in this price range.
Stylish, better look and perfectly fits into the hand.
