Check out double twist that converts videos to the right formats for android devices. I have not used it on my nexus one yet but I have used it for my Samsung galaxy before and works pretty well.
Question...when you convert it on handbrake for your N1, what are your publishing settings? I notice that they have options for iPod, iPhone, Etc.....

I use my iPhone setting. Android doesn't suppot WMV nor AVI but it supports mp4 which is the same format as iphone. If you wanna change the dimension that works too

i loaded a movie on thru doubletwist but it wont play, any ideas? and yes it is converted
Use Handbrake...I just installed it and tried it on my iphone. Loaded 9 files in the past 10 minutes and worked great. About to load it in to my N1....it's simple and straight forward.

yea handbrake is great for the iphone, ive used it as well.
