Help Water Damaged S3

Lurker
Hey. I recently dropped my water in my bathtub and then I tried to turn it on again. It flashed the Galaxy SIII logo then the screen turned purple and shut off. So I tried to follow this video "Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 Water Damage Repair - 45351382", and its instructions, but after I finish the steps, I turn on my phone and it just goes to a black screen and vibrates every 2 seconds.

The best way to deal with water damage is remove the phones SIM Card and battery, then place in a bag of rice in a warm, dry cupboard for at least 48 hours. The worst thing you can do is try and turn it on whilst it's still wet.

I'd hazard a guess and say you're going to need to give Samsung a call, see if they can repair the phone. Alternatively, your insurance company if you have one. :(

I tried to follow the video which gave me instructions to disassemble my entire phone and clean up all the residue and corrosion on the motherboards, which I did. I also found droplets of water while inside the phone and cleaned that up as well. But the only thing that happens when I try turning on my phone is it would just keep vibrating every 3 seconds. If I put in the charger, the red LED light with blink for 2 seconds, and then the battery charging icon will flash every 2 seconds along with the vibrate. If I unplug the charger, the same thing happens except with the Samsung logo.

But did you try the rice suggestion in the post above yours and leave it completely alone for at least 2 days?

It's fried. Switching it on after the accident was just about the worst thing to do. Sorry dude.

The advice offered was what you should have tried.

About the only thing left to do is make the call to get it replaced. Then pick up an Otterbox Armor or Lifeproof. Or just not use your phone near lots of water.

As soon as you get your phone out of water, take the battery out as soon as possible. If you neglect to do so, short circuits and corrosion will continue to occur, possibly causing irreversible damage.

A good alternative to rice is heating your phone in an oven on a piece of paper or something nonmetallic for 5 hours @ 150F-180F (temperature is safe for electronics), and then turn the oven off and keep your phone in it over night to ensure all the moisture that got inside your phone has evaporated. I've used this method before and it works great.

I've never done the following myself, but you could probably give your phone a bath in highly concentrated (preferably >90%) isopropyl alcohol which will cause the water to evaporate faster and also remove corrosion. I recommend that you try this option if your phone exhibits signs of water damage later on.
