Wattasapp - where does it store photos?

Hi,

I went scrambling yesterday, some buds sent me a bunch of pics they'd taken on the ride, so went to transfer them to my PC...

But where are they?

I find "wattsapp images" but that just has about 15 photos in it, not the 200 or so I know are hiding somewhere.

A googly search suggested "data/data/com" but nope, not there either.

I can do a crude workaround by "sharing" each photo, one at a time, to my own Drive or Dropbox but I'd really like to know just where WA is hiding the files?

Yes, they used to show up in Gallery but a bunch of people complained about them (me included) because it was seriously cluttering everything up. I think they have since put in the .nomedia file to keep them from showing up there, but I haven't used it in forever so I cannot confirm that.

Why don't these apps use a subdirectory of the DCIM folder to store these things?
