Hello :)

I've been a member a while but have never stopped by to introduce myself.

I'm Starbuck & I have a Samsung galaxy S2 running ICS.

I know this isn't the right place for posting issues, however, if someone could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it :)

2 problems:

1) Storage

I can't seem to use the 32g external card. I'm a bit confused how the phone uses storage/internal storage and external storage. It seems to not allow me to use hardly any of the external storage meaning that my phone is constantly running out of memory and I have to delete things with a virtually empty 32g card in there (which it can see).

2) Media

For months (before the ICS update) I can't play back most videos that I've taken on the phone itself. It says 'Cannot play video" This started in about November, but I hadn't done anything to the phone. I can play some of them back through mobo or similar, but they are very laggy and have lots of bright colours in (like an old 8bit computer game!) and others mobo can't see at all although the file is there. In addition, some photographs I take are fine, others show 'image is corrupt' when I try to open them. Nothing obviously different between the photographs or the settings, but some you can see some you can't. I also noticed a few times that I took a picture, looked at it, then went and did something else and the picture has disappeared when I go back to look at it later. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason and like the playback it seems completely random which it can or can't play (though I'm sure it can't be).

All very strange. Any advice of the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

Thankyou :)

The storage problem you are having could be could be as simple as a defective card. Being able to see it is a good sign:)
Try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.seasmind.android.gmappmgr&hl=en as it will allow you to move(or try to move:rolleyes:) app from your internal to your external memory.

The media issue is a tricky one also. Perhaps it is a file format problem. This free app might be helpful to rule that idea out.
Miro Video Converter FREE - Convert any video to MP4, WebM (vp8), iPhone, Android, iPod, iPad, and more.
The photo problem is almost identical to a friends G1. Pictures and videos are taken but mysteriously disappear when an attempt to view them is made. I set her up with the offline storage site app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dropbox.android&hl=en on her phone and guess what:confused: The pics and video that would not appear on the phone were uploaded to the Dropbox site and were easily accessible from there. Explanation as to why:confused: Don't know:eek:
The bottom line is that no picture or video will be "lost" now that the Dropbox app is set up to automatically upload pictures and video on a set schedule.:D
Hope this info helps you and Welcome to AF:)

Hiya

Thanks for the quick answer :)

The card is fine, it works in other devices, and I can see it and navigate through it via the PC - however although the phone can see it, it won't seem to allow me to connect to it or store stuff on it. Very strange. Need to do a step by step and then post up what happens to identify the issue.

I have dropbox so will set up the phone and see what happens. Just so frustrating that it's the video taken on the blasted thing that won't play - everything else is fine!

:DNP
Sounds like a plan on the SD. IKR-frustrating..these phones have a mind of their own sometimes:eek:
