I have been running Wavesecure since I had my Hero and from day one with the EVO as well.
The remote tracking feature does not work well without having your GPS enabled. Without root, there is no way to turn the GPS on remotely.
Now with root access, you can simply push the .apk file to the system/apps directory and Wavesecure will install. Now when you log into your Wavesecure portal and track, the GPS turns on. This will be great if you ever lose your phone. I tested it and it works flawlessly.
Also, Wavesecure says that you can make the software hard reset proof by installing in the system directory. I did not test this. Below are instructions on how to do both if you are interested.
