Help Ways to prevent accidentally stop recording video?

spman

Android Enthusiast
Hi,

I am using default samsung camera app to record video. I started recording and I accidentally stop it without myself knowing it. I think I might have accidentally pressed the stop record button when I was zooming in/out or accidentally touched the stop record button.

How to prevent stop recording video accidentally? Is there some feature or some app that can make it harder to stop video recording? e.g. long press to stop, slide to stop, double press to stop, hide the stop record button during recording to the edge (slide from edge to appear if I want to stop recording)

Thanks

there is no feature that i can find on my s25 ultra that will lock the recording button. you might do a search for a camera app that might have the ability to lock the recording, but i doubt there is one.....but you never know.

the only thing i can think of that might work is to use the tasker app. i know it can be used for various camera options, but i am not sure if it can be used to lock the recording button. i know it has a lock feature to lock in certain tasks, but again i do not know about recording.

I found a solution by using Open Camera app but Open Camera app is unable to have the same highest resolution as the Samsung default Camera app in A32 5G

To prevent accidentally stop recording video, I enabled this setting in open camera app:
open camera>settings>video settings>enable [Lock screen when recording video. When recording video. the GUI will be locked to prevent accidentally stopping recording. Swipe the screen to unlock. Note that video recording will always stop if the app goes into background or the screen is blanked.]

Open Camera app highest Video resolution setting available is [2560x1440]
Samsung default Camera app highest Video resolution setting available is [UHD30]. I think [UHD30] is 3840 x 2160
I have tried to record video in both highest video resolution setting and the samsung camera app is clearer.

How to set Open Camera app to use Video resolution [UHD30]?

Is there an app that could add a feature of "Lock screen when recording video" into the Samsung default Camera app?

Thanks

You're asking all the right questions, and I can see you're trying to balance clarity with control. Here's a breakdown of what’s possible and what’s not:

Why Open Camera Can't Match UHD30 (3840x2160)

Open Camera relies on Android’s Camera2 API and the device’s hardware capabilities. Even if your Samsung phone supports UHD30 (3840x2160 at 30fps), Open Camera may not expose that resolution due to:

  • API limitations: It may default to resolutions that are officially supported via Camera2.
  • Device-specific constraints: Some Samsung models restrict third-party apps from accessing full camera capabilities.

What you can try:

  • Go to Open Camera > Settings > Video Settings > Video Resolution and look for any 4K options like 3840x2160 or UHD.
  • Enable Camera2 API:
Settings > Advanced > Use Camera2 API (experimental)
Then restart the app and check if UHD30 appears under video resolutions.

If UHD30 still isn’t available, Open Camera simply doesn’t have access to it on your device.

Lock Screen While Recording in Samsung Camera App?

Unfortunately, the Samsung default Camera app doesn’t offer a built-in “lock screen while recording” feature like Open Camera does. There’s no official way to prevent accidental touches or stop recording unless you:

  • Use Pro Video mode and avoid touching the screen.
  • Record with the phone placed securely and avoid interaction.

Workaround apps:

  • Tasker: You might be able to create a custom automation that disables touch input or overlays a lock during recording, but it’s complex and not guaranteed to work with Samsung’s Camera app.
  • Third-party camera apps: Some apps like Filmic Pro offer advanced controls and might include screen lock or gesture-based stop recording, but they may not match Samsung’s image processing quality.

Final Thoughts

If clarity is your top priority, stick with the Samsung Camera app at UHD30. If control and accidental touch prevention matter more, Open Camera with screen lock is a solid choice—though you’ll sacrifice some resolution.

Would you like help exploring Filmic Pro or Tasker setups to mimic screen lock behavior? Or maybe we could sketch out a hybrid workflow that balances both clarity and control.

I have used Open Camera for endless times though, there might be some sort of kill switch to prevent accidental swiping, depending on how much you use display settings, frankly I use the timer of fifteen seconds.

What is this "timer of fifteen seconds." for? How to set it?
