Hi, I'm using Desire in Malaysia with 2.2. I notice sometimes in areas where the 3G signal is fairly OK, the phone tends to connect to Edge or alternate between 3G and Edge.
If I change my settings to WCDMA only:
1) will my battery life improve since the phone is not switching between signals or will it get worse by sticking to 3G only?
2) if I'm in an area where there's no 3G signal, is the phone going to use more battery searching for a signal that doesn't exist?
3) will it affect phone reception, as I notice in WCDMA only I'll get 0 or 1 bar as opposed to at least 2 bars normally?
For question 1, a friend of mine apparently improves her Blackberry battery life by sticking to GPRS/Edge, so I'm wondering whether the drain is caused by being connected to 3G itself or the auto switching between different signals
