Root we got root.

Use mskip's note 8 toolkit. donate to him to unlock all of the features (it's not that much). i like it cuz you can backup everything about the 8 on your computer if you ever have issues. you can unroot or just do recovery, etc. just run the program, plug in your 8 and let the fun begin!

Im really anxious to root my Note 8.0 in ourder to use a few apps that require root like Bluput Droid to control my PS3 and Multi-Window Manager.
The question I have is will following any of the mentioned methods on this thread format or change how I have my tablet set up? if this were to work, I'd want to consider doing the same to my fathers tablet, but he's got a Note 10.1 2014 edition. Would the same process work on his? and most importantly of all, can all of this be undone (or unrooted) so as not to effect the warranty?

mskip's toolkit will root and unroot both. Rooting doesnt change ur device except for allowing u to customize more of its hidden features. If u have knox installed u will void ur warranty. I've rooted and returned devices and never been questioned tho.

Just curious... Is there a Kitkat Rom thats not CM? I'd like to get Kitkat on my, but I rooted a nook recently, installed CM11 Kitkat, and Im not all that jazzed about the CM parts. Or maybe Im just not understanding what exactly the point of CM is. May rather stick closer to OTA type rom if possible. Any ideas?

Rooted, works brilliantly... now looking to flash CM11 Kitkat. Do I just download the most recent rom and gApps for it reboot into recovery, flash, clear cache, install gApps, clear cache again then reboot? Any suggestions on the best place to get the most up to date CM11 KitKat and gApps for Note 8? Also, would I need to flash using a boot sd card, or id there a simpler way by downloading the files straight to the tab, and then when in recover flashing the files from there? I know flashing a rom is a bit different from just rooting... so will all my info and app/widget info and layout be wiped? Basically does it do anfactory restore into CM11?

when doing a rom flash, it is recommended to do a factory reset which will wipe everything you had on there, ie apps and layout. u can flash on top of a rom if u are just upgrading the existing rom. download titanium backup root or rom toolbox and you can save your apps and then re-download them. just download the .zip to ur pc, plug ur phone in and move the file to ur sd card, reboot into recovery and install (and do all the other stuff u mentioned).
