We need an itunes like app

this is exactly the debate that is driving the tablet revolution.
let's just get the Android ones out there so we can show the ipad users what they're missing just like we do now with the iphone users.
BTW i'm gonna laugh at all the ipads we'll see tethered to Evo's in a couple weeks.

I'm waiting for the notion adam ink to drop, and get reviewed. It's got my attention.

Just wanted to point out what works for me. I use iTunes for my music, videos and podcasts. I did not want to have to connect a cable to my computer to sync so I purchased Tunesync from the market place and it syncs over wifi. I create smart playlist in iTunes and my music, audio and video podcasts and movies are automatically sync'd to my incredible over wifi. If I watch a podcast on my computer and delete it, it will be automatically deleted from my phone on the next sync. Any movie or TV show I convert to mp4 to play on my incredible gets sync'd by adding it to iTunes so the smart playlist picks it up. My only problem is i cannot delete from iTunes by deleting watched shows on my phone. I still have to go into iTunes to delete it. Hope this helps someone that was as confused as me about the best way to get music and videos on the phone.

I just checked tunesync out. Not having to mount the phone via a cord is great.

It does not, however, support video according to their website:

Will TuneSync™ sync copy video files?

TuneSync™ durrently does not support copying video files.

I saw the same thing on Tunesync's web site and did not think it would work for video, but it does. I use Handbrake to convert movies and tv shows to mp4 and import them into iTunes. I created a smart playlist to pull them by genre and they sync just like the audio files. This worked for me using Tunesync lite which limits your playlist to 20 items . Once I saw this worked i purchased the full version. It also syncs my video podcast along with the audio ones.

I have never purchased or rented iTunes movies online but I don't think they would work because of DRM. I convert my purchased dvds so they can be watched on the phone.

My biggest frustration right now is trying to sync my itunes to my XT701... Specifically my video podcasts...

I use an iPod Touch at the gym for music and podcasts... If I could sync these easily, I would be able to ditch my BB and my Touch in one shot. (and my point and shoot camera)

I use DoggCatcher (phone app) for podcasts and Salling MediaSync (PC app) for syncing music (can also sync podcasts but I prefer not tethering just to update those). Since then, I stopped using my iPodTouch for music/podcasts.

Up until now I wasn't having any luck syncing my Incredible with Windows Media Player 12. I ended up renaming my folder structure and it made WMP12 see the Incredible's media. By default, the Incredible makes a folder on the internal 8GB drive called MP3. Originally I put all my music in this folder. But when it was in there, WMP12 could not see it. I ended up creating the following folder structure, and it now syncs correctly. I think the main thing is to have a folder named 'music', not 'MP3'.

F:\media\audio\music

Is there an itunes like app where I can download podcasts, movies, music, tv shows, etc from ONE CENTRALIZED PLACE.
It's going to take far more than just "an app" to do all this. Where is the content going to come from? Who's going to license and encode everything as well as host all the data? It's a full-fledged service that you're asking for and that's much more involved than just writing some code for an app. iTunes isn't just an app.

I never understood why watching movies on a phone would appeal to anyone....
I've never understood why some people think their opinions are some sort of universal truth... :p

There are plenty of people who do watch movies on a small screen whether any one person gets it or not.

After seeing IOWAs winamp post all my music syncing needs are met. Even better is that I always preferred winamp to itunes anyway.

EDIT: As I don't think that google would do it I would like to see a third party make an application similar to itunes... with the whole purchase/rent/whatever music, videos, podasts, etc. You could also make it work with a verity of devices instead of just one.

I think that the digital distribution market could use some more competition anyway.

i hate the idea of apples sych crap, so that aint for me, but as for music i get it straight away for free on my phone, i got a app called mp3 download and does exactly that for free, search and download, hope this helps.

While I've seen a number of sync options, nothing really rivals iTunes. It's more than just music and video, it's contacts, notes, email accounts, calendar, etc.

I use iSync to transfer my iTunes playlists to the phone, but that doesn't help with the rest of it. According to doubleTwist, they're only focusing on music and such and, I didn't see a way to import and keep syncronized the playlists between doubleTwist and iTunes.

What Apple got right wasn't just to have an iPod or iPhone, but that integration between a user's desktop and device to truly make the phone an extension of a primary workstation.

Having control is fine -- I wanted more control over my phone than what the iPhone will provide without having to jailbreak it. But there seems to be limited, at best, integration between my desktop and my Evo (or any Android phone, for that matter.) And HTC Sync is a joke that isn't even funny.
