We Need The Galaxy Community To Be Big And Strong

OK, now that we have our Galaxies, what is next?

Obviously: playing with them and installing stuff on them ;)

But for how long?

I have decided for Samsung Galaxy over HTC Hero and HTC Magic
because I thought it was a superior device. I still think so. I enjoy
the thinness, the AMOLED screen and everything else.

But given that so many Android devices are being announced, and
given that Samsung churns out new phone models very rapidly,
I am worried that they might reassign the people (programmers) working
on Galaxy firmwares to something else as soon as they think they can
get away with it. They better not, of course, since this is their first
Android phone and they need to build a reputation.

Unlike xda-developers for HTC, the Galaxy community is dispersed over
many forums (this one, UK o2, German forums, Italian forums...). I don't
think that this is necessarily bad.
But I do think that we have to be "loud" enough together to push
for Samsung to allocate enough resources to support Galaxy.
For example, if Android 2.0 gets multitouch, we need to push Samsung
to give us drivers for it.
I'm not talking about now, I'm talking about six or more months from now.

Reports say that Galaxy is selling very well. I'm hoping that some
of the people buying it will come online, log in somewhere and become
a part of the community, discussing issues, asking for fixes, building
custom ROMs and the like.

Thanks for reading. I just had to get that off my chest :)

Also, ideas how to let Samsung know that we are here,
there are many of us and we mean business, are wellcome.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way :)

The link doesn't work at the moment: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.

sale numbers will be the biggest factor for samsung to back the galaxy

low sales low support and vice versa

i am with you all the way on this but i am yet to receive my galaxy (still on its way GRR) so as soon as i get mine i will class myself worthy to be included

www.i7500galaxy.com does not work for me either 403

Xenon you are correct we need to bring the community together somewhere
lets find that somewhere

why create a new site insted use a good site like this or like modaco offer? the number of user here or in modaco are for sure bigger... so i do not understand why to have a little home when we can have a room in a big house with the pool ... and so i will stay there :D
in fact the best thing for android is that most of the things are the same for all the ppl and for all the device a part of particular customization

Well done you!

Taking the bull by the horns is a great attitude to have. I do believe, however, that the key is be adopted fully into the android family and not separate device vendors.

It may be an option for you to speak to the owners of this forum and suggest some kind of linking/affiliate programme. Creating another forum may spread the voice even thinner.

I think we need to persuade Samsung into releasing all their sources for Galaxy (including drivers). Then they can drop dead as far as I'm concerned, because their software is terrible and I trust the community developers more.

I also think we're stronger if all Android users stick together in this 'super forum'.

Plus, I think this kind of set-up is better because it will of course have more contributors than the suggested forum, and the more contributors the better. Don't forget that there are many non-Galaxy areas of this forum that are still very useful to us, such as the 'Android Applications' mini-forum:
