I removed above in error - how do i get it back on a Samsung Galaxy II.

I'm a complete beginner to this please help

It sounds like you removed a widget. Try this: Long-press an empty area of the home screen and choose "Widgets", that should provide you with a list of widgets that you can tap to add to the home screen.
