weird battery

The battery icon in the notification area of my desire shows what appears to be around 90& battery left, then all of a sudden it switches itself off asking me to connect the charger after approx 5 hours of average use, this has only happened very recently, and the phone is about a year old... appreciate any help thanks.

That is weird, does it only turn off when you do something intensive like Internet browsing?

Yeah it does, normal browsing, but it shows me as having at least three quarters of green in the bar left, really weird

You can download a battery monitor widget that will log your battery level and the current the phone is drawing. Could be a rogue app, problem on main board or time for a new battery.

My phone was in my pocket during a storm and I had the problem where by my battery drained flat every 6 hours, even if it was turned off. Fixed itself a week later after I had got a replacement.
