Help Weird behavior.. is it damaged? [SOLVED =)]

Newbie
A few minutes ago, I picked my Galaxy S, the screen was turned off, ok normal, I pressed the home button to turn it on, but to my surprise it didn't! I pressed the back button and it vibrated but did nothing more.. I decided to restarted it and pressed the power button. It showed me then the menu for that (turn it off, airplane mode, etc). If I wanted to go back I wasn't able, so, my only choice was restart.. I kept pressing the power button until it restarted.

After it did (it took its time), it was like the first time I used the phone showing me the configuration options (language, keyboard, wifi, 3G, Google account, etc). Plus, something really weird! It showed several windows of lots of applications saying it had stopped unexpectedly, with a button to force close it. This apps were:

aqua pets
sleep as an droid
airmail
Routinely
Photobucket
App protector pro
Earthquake
Watchdog
Financisto
Facebook
Twitter
Graphicly Comics
Android Assistant
Weather Bug

I see no relation in that!! Just random apps?? Something not working properly?? What's more weird, I couldn't launch the ADWLauncher EX, if I pick that option, either the screen turned black or did nothing, so I had to use the default Samsung's TWLauncher.

(Oh! I've just noticed! I just got a message and just realized all my contacts are gone!)

Since I couldn't use neither Watchdog nor Android Assistant to see a possible buggy app (if I tried to open them they FC), next I did was uninstall all the possible problematic apps (all I listed, including ADWLauncher EX). Reset my phone, but it keeps doing it! Plus, I got a forced close message from Layar, and Layar comes with the phone!

What I did before that?
Yesterday night: I realized Skype wasn't working, if I tried to open it it FC after vibrating a couple of times, so I uninstalled it. Also did some updated for some apps.
Today: Did another update for an App called JA Sensei (to help learning Japanese) and also installed again Skype. Didn't test them, just click on update and leave the phone, didn't ever wait to see the updates finishing. About a half of an hour later, I picked my phone and was already behaving this way..

Any ideas of what's happening?? =O

Edit: btw.. I've already uninstalled Skype and JA Sensei as well..
Edit2: I just realized Lookout isn't working either..

As an update.. I've been testing the rest of the apps and seems a lot other have the same FC problem. Though, also seems that uninstalling them and installing them again solves the problem...

Is there any way to reset the phone to the initial state? (don't know how to say it, I mean as if it were brand new and only with the apps it had without any I've installed)

Perhaps uninstalling everything and installing them again solves my problem.. dunno what happened.. It's like if my phone had reset to its inicial state.. each time I open an app, I have to agree to the terms of service or register and so..

It sounds to me that your sd card or partition is having problems with read/writes. Most apps that store data, put it on the sd card to keep more system memory available. When it can't find that location, things could get ugly.

As long as you can access the phone you can go to menu>settings>privacy and tap on Factory data reset. This will put the phone back to original condition except it will not erase or remove the contents of your sd card(s). If you perform a factory data reset, the very next thing you should do is reformat the sd card in the phone. (you may have to unmount it first).

Make sure before you do anything, you back up all your important data, or you will lose it.

If that doesn't clear up the problems, you may have faulty memory, which means a warranty repair/replacement is in order.

All my data has already been lost anyway =( .. only messages remain, but those aren't that important..

I tried unmounting my external SD Card and testing it without it, but it didn't work. Plus, I don't have any app installed there anyway, only mp3, photos and some videos.. Should I still reformat the SD Card?

Thanks lunatic59! I'll try doing the factory reset! Only doubt I have is if I should also format the sd card after what I told you =O ..

Yeah but transferring mp3 and videos with Kies can be really painful lol! No prob, I use SnapNGo for that anyway =P ..

Oh! As a note before doing the reset! While trying some of the other apps, I realize a couple of things:

1) Looks like none of the stock apps are damaged (only Layar, but not really a stock app, just comes with the phone and I could uninstall it)
2) While testing the Doodle Dash game app. I realized the game was sloooow..

Does it say something??

The stock apps are installed to a different location and have different permissions. It is definitely sounding like flaky memory. It could be a scrambled file table or is could be bad sectors. If a reset and reformat don't fix it, you'll have to replace it.

Oh nous =( .. Ok, I'll backup the photos I have in the sd card before the reset and formating.. I'll report after I finish. Thanks a lot!!

FWIW you don't have to use kies to copy files. If you simply mount the card as a storage device, it should copy a little faster.

When I try to copy from or to the sd card as a storage device, I sometimes get an error, like if it didn't detect the sd card, I have this problem since I bought the card.. That's why I had to use Kies first, but later emigrated to Snap n Go.. Never knew why this happened..

Better the card and not the phone =( .. I still have warranty but it'd take from 2 to 3 weeks at least while they also check the phone.. I'm using Kies Air now.. hopefully I'll finish soon.. Will be posting the results after the reset and reformat =)

Just for reference.

/system - this is the partition where your stock apps are installed. Email, gmail, phone, contacts, sms, etc.

/data - this partition contains your downloaded apps and app data. This gets wiped when you perform a factory reset.

/cache - this is a temporary area this is used only when downloading apps from the market. It gets automatically cleared when it runs out of space. This is also why some of your downloads may fail if you try to download too many apps at once.

Good to know that! Thank you snapper.fishes!

Well, Finally finished all my backups, did the factory reset and reformat the sd card! Aaaand... Everything seems to be working great! =) I've been testing the phone the whole day, downloading all the apps that where erased in the reset and I have no complains till now.. I also transfered all my mp3 to the sd card via storage device with no problems..

I'll keep watching, hopefully everything is solved now =)

Thank you very much again for your help lunatic59! Much appreciated!! =)
