Root Weird boot incident with JB Port

As some of you know, working CDMA Jelly Bean ports have started showing up for the Evo 3D over on xda. I know it's unlikely we will get one working very well without a modified AOSP kernel, but I decided to mess around with them and see if I could get one to boot on our device anyways

Just a few moments ago during a flash of dastin1015's Jumping Jelly Beans ROM, I made it past the boot screen and got all the way to a window that said "Android is upgrading...". The device powered down and then bootlooped after that, but I thought it was interesting and something I hadn't seen before.

Here's the order of what I did if you want to try and recreate it:
-Wipe cache/dalvik/system in TWRP 1.1
-Flash Stock ROM Odexed
-Rebooted to system, then back to recovery
-Wiped cache and dalvik again for good measure
-Flashed MAC SIO Kernel with Jumping Jelly Beans 0.1, in that order
-Reboot to system

MAC SIO Kernel: [Kernel][AOSP][3.0.8] MAC Kernel - 0.6.0 - It's A Start! [OC GPU | SmartassV2 | SIO] - xda-developers

Jumping Jelly Bean: [ROM][PORT] Jumping Jelly Beans v0.1 Jul. 14, 2012 - xda-developers

I haven't been able to make it happen again, but I just thought I'd share. I'll keep messing around with it and try out some other AOSP kernels. Will report back if I have any luck :)

"Android is upgrading" can be re-created pretty much anytime simply by clearing your cache and rebooting. It's the phone's way of rebuilding it's caches.

Yeah I'd seen it from clearing caches before, but never in a scenario where I would normally bootloop. Thought it might be an indicator that I was getting out of the loop. Probably nothing though.

I got these kinds of loops with Devil's toast and anthrax kernel

Used the kernel from austrie's miui (not sure if it's still the same as mobz) and instead of bootlooping, it just hung on the nexus boot animation screen.

One of the devs that had a hand in it booting said good news is that it'll work on our phones. The bad news is that we would have to downgrade our h boot for it to work, which isn't a good idea.

So I guess we're just gonna have to wait until htc releases the kernel source codes.

Oyye, yeah that is scary. I can wait.

Have you tried to boot this port of cyanogenmod 10 yet?
I haven't, but considering that I never got a CM9 rom to boot, it's very unlikely that it will work.

Has anyone with hboot 1.57 tried flashing the 1.40 hboot .img?
(from downgrade forum)--> "I have attached the PG86IMG.zip with the 1.40 bootloader on it, download it copy to sd card and flash via bootloader". Sounds tempting, but then again you know what they say about curiosity...

Exactly. I'm not willing to do it...and I'm ballsy.
