Weird night vision like effect

Hear me out guys, as this will sound weird.

So I was walking my dog in the middle of this old road near my apartment. Since its night where I'm at, my screen was dimmed as low as it can. I was on Facebook and I went to wipe sweat off my face and the screen got in front of my eyes and literally lit up everything. It lit it up enough to where I thought a car was behind me but not enough to blind me.

I tried it a couple times and noticed things in the darkness I couldn't see before. It's way primitive but it blew my freaking mind.

Well known to telescope users. If you are in fairly dark surroundings for a while, a bright light will ruin your dark adaptation.

You overstimulated your vision with the bright screen, giving the illusion of seeing things that you normally wouldn't notice.

True story:
One night at camp, our counselor took us out into the woods, pitch black. We started a pretty big fire and he said he was going to tell us a story. But, beforehand, he said to cover one eye and focus the other on the fire the whole time. Story probably lasted 20min, but afterwards we opened the closed eye and it was pretty bizarre feeling how both eyes were used to different conditions.

Telescope users do. You cover the eye you observe with. SkEye has a red screen.
Like film, red light doesn't interfere as much.
