Help Weird sync problems with messages and email

Hi, everyone. I recently saw the light and switched from iPhone to a Galaxy S6, but now, I am starting to panic because I am having many problems.
-None of my email accounts are syncing, not my regular (pop) account or my gmail accounts. I have the email app and the gmail app, and neither works. It tells me the last backup was last night, but it's not syncing now. I made no changes whatsoever. My regular pop account started failing days ago, so I started forwarding my emails to the gmail account, and now that is not working either.
-In my messages (texts), all of a sudden all the contacts names disappeared and only the numbers appeared, I couldn't even create new contacts with them. I sort of fixed it importing a backup, but it's happened twice without me doing anything.
-What is even stranger, the name of some contacts just suddenly changes to somebody else's name. The message history remains the same, but I have to go into the contact and edit the name back to what it should be. This happens only with certain contacts.
-My contacts constantly change. Sometimes all the FB contacts appear, then suddenly disappear, even though I have it set up to only sync the contacts I want and not FB's. Numbers that I manually saved on the phone are gone, even though I thought I had backed up.
- Notifications from days before constantly appear, even though I dismissed them more than once, like for calls I missed three weeks ago.
-Keep getting a notification saying "Location set by GPS"... can't get rid of it.

So in general, the phone is acting really weird and I don't know what to do. If I need to do a factory reset, what's the best way to backup my messages, contacts, emails, music and pictures? Can I just copy the files from the drive onto my computer desktop?

I am getting really discouraged and I don't want to think I made a big mistake switching. Please, help me out.

If you have saved your contacts to your Google (Gmail) account - and you should - this will restore them to any point they were at in the last 30 days:

Sorry, but I don't have a Samsung and I don't do Facebook so I can't really help much more. I can only say go through the Sync and notification settings carefully, because what is happening is not normal. Maybe the user manual can help.

Lotsa luck!
