Weird VM Notifications using .0.9.9.2 and 2.3.3

ghart999

Newbie
Hi all. So I get these notifications that show the VM symbol in the notification bar whenever I reboot and then every few hours afterwards. Its says, " New voicemail (4) Dial *86"

I got this for the first time a week ago when I flashed from an older Sense rom to .0.9.9.2 and yesterday I flashed to 2.3.3 and it happens again.

Both times I flash, I am using google voice and never even download the Spring VVM app. If I click on the notification it dials *86 and a message comes on saying "The feature code you entered is not valid. Message 1."

Any idea? It is annoying as hell.

Thanks.

Lots of threads on this if you look around.
Easiest Suggestion - Use Google Voice in lieu of sprint VVM

Heh, he or somebody else asked this same question in another thread and I, too, suggested Google Voice. It really is the best way to go for Visual Voicemail portability between ROMs.

The added features and ease of setup is definitely worth the initial effort to get it working. I echo MahaloCat and DonB on this one.

If you all notice, I stated in the first post that I am using Google voice and that I never even downloaded Sprint VVM. So I am confused why everyone is suggesting I use GV. I thought I made that clear. If not, I am sorry.

Hence, my situation is different than all the other threads since the other threads refer to persons having this issue when they use Sprint VVM.

Heretic, you are correct that I brought this up in a different thread (but the thread title is not of this topic) where I was raising this issue. However I have since flashed the ROM(s) and never downloaded Sprint VVM at all and only used GV, yet I still get this error on both 0.9.9.2 and 2.3.3. Each time I did a full wipe.

Thanks all.

Then the issue is that you might need to flash back to your Stock rooted Rom, and update your VVM, once that is done I believe you need to make sure you do not check mark to receive text message or something like that, I don't recall but did read it somewhere, I am sure LB will know better as he has been down this path before, once updated you can restore your current Rom and that should resolve your issue, if not than I assume someone else will chime in

Hmmm. Interesting Don. I may try that. I will wait and see if anyone else chimes in first. But that is a thought. Thanks.

DonB is right and that is what I did. I had a long day yesterday, so I only skimmed your first post, ghart999.

The Sprint Visual Voicemail app recently had an update and it caused me all sorts of issues at first due to server issues on their end. Once I was able to finally update it, the regular voicemail indicator went away and things went back to normal.

Is there a way I can dl the updated Spring VVM app and check the notifier you are referring to and then just go on my way or do I really have to flash back to stock rom and all that jazz? Also what version is the newer VVM? Thanks.

Unfortunately, I do not have the new version number on hand because I am not on my stock ROM at the moment. You should be able to just download the .apk file of Sprint Visual Voicemail and install it.

After that you can check for updates. If it does not work on a non stock ROM, you will have to flash back to your stock ROM then.

Hey, ghart999, I edited my last post to take you directly to the part that SHOULD address your issue. So, check that out first.

You can also grab the Sprint Visual Voicemail .apk in the first link. Good luck.
