Help weird wifi problem with g1

Whenever i try to start the wifi on my g1 phone, it pauses for about 7 seconds and than the phone restarts. I think this might be a hardware issue, where is the wifi located and is there a chance when i last opened my phone up that i didn't connect a certain wire right or something?
 
also thought i might add that i tried switching out the wifi chip, same thing going on so i'm thinking it might be something software related, are all wifi chips/motherboards compatiable?
