Wet phone = No backlight

skipsey

Lurker
Hi, my phone got really wet. Dried it out thoroughly for a few days (in rice, in an airing cupboard).

It now turns on and works perfectly, other than the backlight doesn't work at all!!

Is the phone now junk? Is there any way to fix this?

Many thanks for any help you guys can give.

I will usually take longer than a week if it got really wet. If you get the backlight and nothing else, then something must be working.

Hopefully it was really clean water.

Try to leave it in more rice....leave it out in the sun....get it a little warm.

But I think Powerkiter is probably right.

Thanks for the replies.

I emailed a company selling LCD screens on ebay and asked about this and they said that teh backlight is separate from the LCD screen. CAn anyone advise on this?

@beau420 - it's been a few weeks now and no sign of the backlight working, so I think it must really be fried :(

So it's just the little LED light that is burnt out? Or the backlight for the buttons of the front?

Sounds like the only way to fix this is with a new phone...

Read this is you haven't = http://androidforums.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10/298081-no-backlight-xperia-x10.html

Maybe something can be done.

Have you tried putting it in rice, using those silica beads or humidity tablets that might suck the moisture out?

The lcd screen is one sealed unit there is no light behind it, after changing mine I can be rather certain of this.

Search for a thread on here by me called Its alive! And it shows my phone in parts form and there is no back light for the screen, there if the digitizer that your finger touches to operate the phone then behind that is the lcd screen.

My thread also had links to where I brought the new parts :)
