What am I doing wrong with my contacts?

I have all my contacts saved as google but every time I try to compose a text or email when I type in the first few letters of my contact I get 2 of the same home numbers and 2 of the same mobile numbers.

Change from All to Google.

It'll do this if you've synced your contacts through HTC sync.

Unfortunately I have done a HTC sync. When I go People - menu - view I have Only contacts with phone numbers unchecked, Google (87) checked even though I only have 43 contacts saved. Show all Google Contacts unchecked and Phone (6) checked.
