What anti-virus/malware/security suite do you use?

Personally, I use Norton's beta app. Has a good wiping/locking capability as well as anti-virus / malware. Anyone else got some suggestions for protection apps. Not really for me but others who may be looking or don't know to install such things.
 
You can get virus, malware etc.. on your phone. Rememer this is a pc aswell. I have important docs and spreadsheets that I may need to take home from the office to work on. I don't want to infect my pc or phone.

Look at apps you have quickoffice etc...Plus I sometimes may need to ftp or download from sites that may not be clean.:(

I would use avg or lookout.

ah man the quote doesn't do signatures. "Come to the senseless side" is so fitting. I'd think with the market place of android being so loose, this is a concern. You should probably just not wear / have any protection on anything and go about things blindly and see how far that gets you. True, Im highly cynical, but id rather be safe than sorry.

no dude, just...no. i know what it is. i've been an Android user for almost a year now. you don't need this unless you're putting things on your phone from untrusted sites, which you shouldn't be doing anyway. this is how you cause problems for yourself lol

no, you won't get anything from the official Android Market. it's sideloading and downloading zip files and opening them on your device from random places that will cause you problems. as long as you know what you're doing, then you'll be fine. so, if you wanna be safe than sorry, that's what you need to not do (grab crap from random places).

i've seriously never heard of someone putting virus protection on a CELL PHONE :confused:
 
i had to finally sign up because of this.

a virus that can infect your computer CAN NOT infect your phone. your phone is not running windows, therefore it is impossible. This is the same reason windows viruses don't affect linux or mac, they just aren't written for it.


anti-virus software on a phone is one of the dumbest things i've heard in a long time. Hell i dont' even run it on my PC, and i haven't had an issues in 2+ years. just don't be a complete idiot with computer use and you dont' need it.

you are right and wrong at the same time.
you are right in that your device can't be infected like a normal computer, but wrong in that it can be infected. recently there was an article talking about some people that were sideloading some app off of some random site (this wasn't in US) and it was sending info back to someone from the device. so that's why i say, DON'T sideload anything from a non-trusted website and you'll be good.

He's afraid of getting a virus from documents being moved around from a PC. That just isn't possible. This is what i was responding to.
 
Ok so let me get this straight I can't get a virus from an email on my phone but I can if I open it from my pc. Ok if thats the case I will delete my anti virus app.

haha... yup... you just cant get a virus from the market.. and no programmer would waste their time on a about as abundant thing such as a smart phone than a computer...

please note this is all sarcasm

My point is simple, stop being naive and realize anything that can run code can also have malicious code programmed for it. Also you just can't police every line of code.

I too had to register because of this. I realize this post is several monthes old but felt the need......
Smartphones can get viruses - but it's very complicated.
Smartphones can indeed be infected with viruses and other forms of malware. This has been a major concern for a few phone manufacturers and phone companies for many years.
"Hutchinson 3" virtually killed the Motorola A920 when it was first launched as they were really concerned that their network could be brought down if somebody created a virus for Symbian and spread it through the A920's (so they turned off all the useful features, like Bluetooth, GPS, etc), later they realised they'd gone over kill and released a patch to unlock the features.
One of the biggest problems though you have with creating a virus for a mobile phone is the amount of different OS's available for phones.
To write a virus for a phone you would need to write a different code for each phone, so it is unlikely, but not impossible. There are tons of Droid users so a bored hacker might be inclined to mess with it. A malicious code sent through email might be the easiest and create some havoc.

whether or not Viruses truly exists or not on smartphones/Androids is beyond me - I can only guess.
But - if there is an AntiVirus or screener out there, it doesn't really hurt to have it.

Lookout has remote find (via GPS or network) and remote-lock and remote data wipe.

I use Lookout to scan apps and files, backup, locate and wipe features. Use TrustGo Security for Dolphin web browser scan, since Lookout can only scan the stock browser.
