What app to control ALL traffic for specific apps

OM2

Android Enthusiast
I want to be able to control specific apps for traffic in and out.
I don't want to do this for all apps as such - just specific ones.

When the phone launches, I don't want it to ping 'home', unless I want to allow it.

Even things like receiving notifications from 'home', I want to block and only allow if I want to.

I'm guessing I need a firewall of some kind?

What should I be looking for?

Thanks.

If you've rooted your phone, I'd strongly recommend AFWall+
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.ukanth.ufirewall&hl=en_US
If you're not rooted there are several, very viable options. Take a look at NetGuard
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.faircode.netguard&hl=en_US
or Mobiwol
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.netspark.firewall&hl=en_US

(A lot of people continue to recommend the NoRoot Firewall app but do note that it apparently is no longer supported. It was last updated in November 2014. Given the nature of today's Internet intentionally choosing to use an out-of-date networking utility when there are really good, viable alternatives is a big gamble.)
