What are my options for portable hotspot?

I have 2.1, made the mistake of upgrading to 2.3? and battled Telus to send another 2.1. I want to upgrade so I can have portable hotspot but DO NOT want 2.3 again. What are my options for getting 2.2 onto this 2.1 phone. I suspect if I go to LG update they are going try to put it up to 2.3 and skip 2.2 altogether.

When you mean portable hotspot, you mean wifi tethering as in connecting to your cell phone's wifi to get internet access? If so, there are a bunch of apps on the market which can do that without upgrading to a new version of Android... Try Wifi tether, barnacle wifi tether... Or just look for wifi tethering apps for android.

As for upgrading to 2.2 or 2.3, fresh out of luck. 2.2 was never released for this phone by LG and never will, they jumped the gun straight to 2.3... Which of course caused all those marvelous issues. They even pulled it, so your phone won't even update through LG update...

2.3 v20B is in the works according to LG support, but considering I must be the only one harrassing them to get it, we'll never get it... So you're stuck on 2.1 for now. Your best bet is to find a third party app that does what you need to do.

Im not exactly sure what tether is but I looked at a few apps and was unable to get the 2.1 to broadcast so I went back to the 2.3. For some reason the memory does not want to go over 19.2. I uninstalled a few apps and had it up to 24 then a bit later magically by itself its back to 19.2MB free even after a reboot. This is one amazing phone.
