What are the best apps for someone who woodworks and likes tools?

I'm thinking of getting my father a Samsung Epic 4G for christmas. He needs a physical keyboard since he has dexterity that would make a touchscreen frustrating and the large screen would be great for him. He was a chemical engineer by trade and now that he is retired, his hobby is woodworking so I'm trying to find the apps that would be functional, or at the very least interesting and fun, for someone who enjoys that.

Right now, I can't think of much besides 'bubble' which is something that shows if something is level, and maybe 'Surveyer' which can show the heights of objects. Any ideas?

Theres a long time between now and then so I might bump this once in a while in case new apps have come out. I'm pretty excited, he's the only one in our family who doesn't have an android phone yet and while he says he's happy with his clamshell phone and T9ing for texts, I know that the physical qwerty keyboard, beautiful super amoled display and turn-by-turn navigation will make him quite happy.

I've seen a protracter app (seems to have vanished during my last housecleaning of apps, so I'm not quite sure of the name). And any woodworker could probably use a good calculator and a unit conversion app. I'm using RealCalc and Unit Converter.

A former chemical engineer might like a periodic table app too - there seem to be several on the Market, but I haven't found one I really like yet. I want one that will calculate molecular weight of compounds and maybe balance reactions too, sort of like the old Chemicalc for PalmOS.
