We should all live like Kings of Yorn no matter what :D

Stuff for the wife and kid, there is no fancy items I want. Everything I bought myself over the last couple of months has been work related.

This Christmas coming not a lot. The Christmas after (if all goes to plan) a house. Hopefully I've got enough for the deposit by then. We shall see. Anywho it makes me more determined now the world knows about it :)

I got myself a few nice things. The Darling Bride always complains that I never ask for anything... so I made a list of very specific things. "Oh," she said, "just order it since you know what you want." Yeah, I've been dealing with that sort of thing for 30 years. Anyway, I now have the Yamaha PSR-S975 arranger/workstation for my office/studio, some great music-oriented software, nice sound and video cards, and a 32" 4K monitor. Happy Chief

Can I rephrase that to say a flat or an apartment. I had high hopes but a bit of a reality check when I looked a bit deeper into buying my first home. Despite the fact that the payments on a £200,000 mortgage would be no more than I'm paying each month to rent there's no chance the banks will lend me that. Some stupid rule (well probably not) says they can't lend you more than a certain percentage of your income. So on a good day 130k tops for me. Kinda leaves me 70k short that I'd have to find myself. If I could save that then I'd probably buy a flat anyway as the payments would be peanuts. Oh well shame on me for dreaming o_O

I'm sorry that your dreams didn't become reality this year @Shotgun84 . There is always next year or the year following. Sometimes life's pieces don't fall into place as quickly and easily as we like. I think your dream is a worthy one. Start small, fix up, and move up until you are where you want to be.

Thanks mate. Although I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed I've also been through enough in my life to always try and see the positive. On the plus side I won't have to mow the lawn :D

That's the killer for most people. Shortfall is beyond their reach.
House prices these days are seriously out of line with average earnings. It didn't used to be this way. Feel really sorry for first time buyers these days, or in fact anyone wishing to trade up the housing ladder.
