What are you buying...

So much depends on where you live, or want to live, because housing prices vary wildly across the US, and I'm sure it's the same in other countries. Some places are just more desirable than others--and their housing prices reflect that fact.

There ARE still places that have ridiculously low-priced housing in the States, but they don't appeal to a lot of people for a variety of reasons.

I'm glad I'll never have to buy another house; I own this one outright and plan to die in it. I feel sorry for first-time buyers whose American dream of owning their own home looks hopeless. My advice: keep your eyes on the prize, stay focused, be diligent about socking away money every month in your 'house fund,' find a way to make extra money and put all of that away, too. Maybe consider a smaller house, or a fixer-upper, or one a little farther from your ideal location. If you're really determined, it should be doable--it just might not look exactly the way you envisioned it.

Yeah it's the same in England too. Some places in some cities here I could get a house on my budget but my little market town in the south east no chance. I get what you mean, never been more determined about anything in my life. Managed to scrimp and save 700 in 4 months which is good going for me as I usually don't have a penny to my name at the end of each month. It should get easier at the end of the year when my rental agreement runs out though as my mum said she'd have me back for a year or 2 while I save. Don't know why but for some reason she likes me :D Honestly not where I wanted to be at 35 but you've got to do what you've got to do. As long as I'm out of there again by the time I 40 I guess :)

I know the feeling man, for some strange reason, this awesome, crazy lunatic insane person, has a girlfriend in about eight years, still I cannot believe it is happening after such a long draught though, we are working at the same place too. Knew oer family before meeting her and her brother, so yeah it is confortable knowing them too. I guess I could get her a ring one of these days, but that is going to be for a long while though.

@Shotgun84 who knows maybe it's God's way of saying hold on there partner, yeah that place looks nice and all, but looks aren't everything. I have a feeling that we will eventually hear the conclusion to this discussion over in the post your last purchase thread:D
