What battery life times are YOU seeing?

I thought that L-Ion batteries did not have the "memory" like the NIMH and they are not affected/damaged by short charges in the middle of their cycle. Am I wrong here?

Ever since I got my first smart phone (Moto-Q forever ago) I am in the habit of charging every minute I can no matter where the battery level is. Very heavy user for work with multiple email accounts, web use, long calls, lots of typing etc.
Before I bought my charges for work and car I would only make it from 7AM to 2 or 3PM depending on talk time.
Also, turned off 4G and don's see a diffference to load times on the web :( Guess I am not in a 4G area here.... well at least it should help the battery life.
 
Sometimes, I have a full charge before I go to bed. When I woke up in the morning, only 1/4 remaining. Don't know what to do.
 
A bit late to throw this in perhaps... but flashing cyanogenmod 7 on it at LEAST doubled battery life for me. a full day of abuse and i make it with plenty of battery left at the end of the day.
 
I was having these issues as well...with very light use(emails, 10-15 mins of surfing, 15 mins of gaming) gps off, wifi off, bluetooth off --I was lasting only 6 hours tops.

The main hog was the display at 70% of battery.

I just did a master reset on my device. All of the same apps are back on the phone and now with the same usage I can last 10-12 hours easy.

Haven't tested it thoroughly yet, but I'm betting something to do with a rogue app that never showed up in the battery usage was the cause.

OR something wasn't right when I got the phone to begin with that a master reset helped with?

I am now going to test with everything on and full brightness to see how long I can last.
 
i still don't know what happened to mine the other day. i took it off the charger at 5am, and by 11am, i was down to 17%. i hadn't even been using it much at all. it sat in my pocket all morning. then today, again i took if off the charger at 5am, and now, at 5:15pm, i've still got 44%. i've done FAR more with it today than i did the other day. why such a variance in battery life?
 
probably because of apps that are not closing properly or something in the android system that isnt functioning properly...

we wouldnt know that ---cuz im losing trust in the battery display.
 
After about 2 months with my 4G, I'm now able to unplug my phone at 5:30 am, and by 10:00 pm after a day of moderate use, I still normally have well over 50% battery left. I use Y5, so I'm connected to WiFi at home and at work, and connected to 4G everywhere else. Screen at 50% brightness, dark wallpaper, and only sync google calender, contacts and Gmail. Oh and I reboot it every morning right after I unplug the charger. Believe me folks, for whatever reason, rebooting after unplugging makes a HUGE difference for me. Oh and definitely uninstall task killers. Forget about programs that are 'running' in the background. Android is an amazing OS and knows how to handle itself and its memory usage.

I have a similar setup...and I cant get more than 7 at the moment.
How much battery does your display take?
 
Unplugged for just shy of 6 hours now, battery is at 99%, Display= 28%, Cell Standby= 23%, WiFi= 12%. Haven't made any calls yet today. Only a couple texts and light surfing.
 
Currently 37% battery left...

Stats:
1d 8hr 30m 25s since unplugged

Cell standby 13%
Phone idle 12%
Wifi 7%
Internet 7%
Android system 2%
Voice calls 2%
Android os 2%

Seems like good battery life to me...lol
 
If there are such stark differences, then has to be something different as well.

For those who are getting close to a day or even more, what major programs are you running? Hotmail/Yahoo sync? Live Widgets? Wallpapers? Online Radio/TV Streaming?

I do none of the above and still cant get past 8 hours :(

Background sync-on (gmail, calendar, facebook for mytouch, contacts, weather)
Widgets on home screen-friendstream, calendar, two stock widgets, weather clock
Live wallpaper-htc live paper

These are all the features I use that are on 24-7. still get what I would call outstanding battery life. I do keep phone calls quick and to the point, but that's because I hate talking in the phone lol. Voice calls do chew up the battery though.
 
I don't run any widgets. Instead I put a link to the app itself on my desktop and launch when I need it. Weatherbug for instance, or any weather widget for that matter, tears battery life to bits. I have a weatherbug shortcut on my home screen, and click it when I want to know what the weather is. That or look out a window. hehehe I have sync turned off for anything but Google calender and contacts, and Gmail. Also, I've never turned GPS off since I've owned the phone. It's only in use when an app requires it.
 
It varies based on how heavy my use is throughout the day. Every day I can make it from the early morning (7:00) until late at night (23:00) without having to charge during the day (I do charge every night, though, which is fine).

If I use it heavily, it'll go down to 20% at night. If I use it more lightly, it's more like 45% at night.

I'm using Cyanogen 7 RC4 rooted. Only widget is the power widget for brightness. I use "dim" most of the time and "100%" when I'm outside in the sunlight. Contacts and Calendar are synced. Facebook checks every hour.

Not at all true. Check my stats. Use weather widget 24-7 with auto updating every hour.

Yeah, updating every hour likely wouldn't have much effect on the battery, but again, if your weather report is only accurate once an hour anyway, why not just use a shortcut? Might squeeze out an extra hour of battery, and your information will be accurate every time you look at it! :-)
 
Lol...the weather doesn't change much over an hour. I don't need up to the min info...i can look out the window for that;) plus I live in Vegas the current conditions are always hot, lol.
 
Oh, yeah you're right, once an hour is perfect for Vegas! :) I'm near Denver. It was 70 this morning, and a chance of snow this afternoon. hehehehe
 
We just upgraded our MyTouch 3Gs to MyTouch 4Gs. This was our first full day with the 4Gs. My wife's use is pretty light - perhaps 25 minutes of talk time and a brief attempt to voice chat with my phone. It has been almost 15 hours since I unplugged our phones from their chargers this morning and her phone still shows 59% battery power.

We have no land line. My cell phone is also our home phone. It is connected to a Phone Labs Dock N Talk via bluetooth. Our cordless hand set system is also connected to the Dock N Talk. We make and receive calls using the cordless handsets, but the calls are processed by my cell phone. My phone is showing about 5% after almost one hour of talk time today and a brief voice chat attempt. I also use Aldiko to read ebooks on my phone. I've spent a good bit of time reading today which is, of course, display intensive.

I had expected much worse results than I've seen so far based on the posts in this thread. I can't say that I am too concerned about battery life at this point.

Update: After 27 hours my wife's phone is still at 30%.
 
I'd like to chime-in with our experience with our MT4G's. We bought ours Feb 12, 2011 (and still waiting for our rebates after two processing screw-ups on T-Mobile's side of the fence). So far we've tried Watchdog, and Advanced Task Killer. They really weren't the solution we were looking for, as neither did what they advertised, imho.

we both run our phones this way:
WIFI off
GPS off
BT off
screen 50%
screen timeout 15 sec.
and so forth.

We too, have no land-line, so this is our primary comm. solution.

I'd also like to say that Android 2.2 isn't as self-managing in efficiency as it's given credit to be. I can fire up the phone, and without launching any apps, find a ton of apps running (uhh, all of them?). Needless to say, our battery life has been horrid, as proactive as we've tried to be with moderate use; and have also done the reboot-after-charging with just minimal benefits. We aren't gamers and don't have a ton of crap on our phones other than what T-Mobile has bundled with the OS.

But I may have found something to help. On a whim, I downloaded another app last night- this one is called "Batteryguard". Though it appears to be just another app killer, I will say this: so far, IT WORKS. This morning I pulled my phone off the charger at @11am, and let Batteryguard kill everything except my BetterKeyboard 8 app, a keyboard skin, and WordFeud & Scrabble helper. It is now 3:53pm- FIVE HOURS LATER, and my battery still shows 95%. Normally by this time I would see a 35-50% decrease in the battery... minimum. Even just sitting for that long, I'd see at least a 35% drop. I took a trip last week and just sitting unused my battery was going into the orange after five hours.

Batteryguard might or might not work this well for every Android Phone, or maybe even every MT4G; but in my case, I'm seeing a huge, positive difference. Going to try it on the wife's MT4G next.

BTW- I'm no shill for whomever created this app, just somebody many decades old who just wants an efficient, working solution for my phone while I'm stuck with it. Hope this helps.

UPDATE- almost 6.5 hrs after a full charge, my battery is still 90%.
 
Update: tonight, it's been 12 hrs since I pulled my phone off the charger, and right now I still have 71% of my battery. I have had one text message exchange tonight, no other usage other than checking emails. Normally I couldn't get 6 hours on a charge on a normal day of usage without having to recharge before the battery was too low.

I believe we have a winner here with Batteryguard... at least with my phone, anyway. We installed it on my wife's MT4G early this evening after a full charge, and she appears to having similar results. So far, so good.

edit: now 15.5 hrs and I have 58% battery (and have been playing wordfeud actively with another app running since just prior to the 12hr mark) time to crash... g'nite.
 
We have 2 Mt4gs in the house and my son has been having issues with his. I took it with me from the States to China as I would have time to discover the world of roms etc. I am very pleased to say that through this board, xda-developers and you tube I managed to permanently root the device and install a new rom. As I write this my phone has been on for 19h 29m 48s on one battery and has 50% remaining. I don't make many calls in China, am on a 2g network, but have used the GPS on for 2 hours, wifi has been on the whole time and have done some e-mail and texts, probably 1.5 hours, 45min angry birds. I don't have any computing experience and am a total noob, if I can do it so can you. I went with the Royal Ginger 2.1 Gingerbread rom and couldn't be happier. Screen snaps, no lag, no crashes, amazing battery life. Ability to remove master e-mail account without system wipe etc. The whole process probably only takes 10 minutes, but I spent hours researching how I wanted to do this before jumping in.
I got in on the at&t $199 deal for the Samsung Galaxy Tablets and gained confidence by rooting those devices first. If you are not comfortable doing this, do a craigslist search and pay some kid $25 to do it for you, you won't regret it. This phone now blows away my iphone 3gs, it will be going to ebay shortly. Chinese Sim card popped in and worked with root and rom, no unlock code was needed. Many thanks to all who have provided the step by step directions for unleashing these phones from the carriers.

Definitely the display in my case. I have it so low that I can hardly see it in the direct sunlight. Its kind of annoying.
 
I noticed that android phones are dumb as hell. They go from having perfect battery life (up to 2 or more days on standby) to having only a battery life of 2 hours or less. It's ******ed and it happens randomly. It seems android turns on stuff by itself some days and not others. Advanced task manager doesn't help. These phones suck.
