What carriers will work?

Welcome to the site! :)

Sprint unlock policy:

According to that they wont unlock it for domestic carriers, so you'll be limited to Sprint MVNOs. Ting and Ring Plus can probably activate it.

Boost Mobile doesn't list it to BYOD:

That means my phone that I paid for that is totally out of contract is close to being a ice scrapper

There are more Sprint MVNOs that you might be able to move it to, some of them will activate it. But yeah, if Sprint wont unlock it you're a bit more limited.

I did get the unlock key from Sprint however when I inserted a Cricket sim card it said incompatable sim card. Never gave me the option to enter the unlock code.

Did they give you the 6 digit MSL number?

That's what they usually tell someone who's asking to unlock the phone, but it doesn't actually unlock it.
