What celebs/politicians/musicians would you bring back?

If you could bring back two of each, from the past century, who would they be?

The two actors I'd bring back would be Bruce and Brandon Lee

Musicians, any two of Freddie Mercury/John Lennon/Jimi Hendrix

Politicians....Teddy Roosevelt and JFK.

Anyone else?

FDR and JFK, but there's not that great a difference.

Musicians? Only 2? I can think of 10 off the top of the smoke swirling around my head (on the first day in the mud alone - boy, that field looks different these days).

Actors. Pretty much the same thing, but I go back a bit further. Monroe? No. Vivien Leigh. Sandra Dee. (Cuteness counts.) Debbie Reynolds (in "Susan Slept Here", not her later look.) Henry Fonda. Sally Field (in just about anything).

Adolf Hitler. He got off too easily.

FDR was a great politician. He made unpopular choices but was elected, what, four times? People recognize quality when they see it. A great rhetorician in the traditional sense - not spinning attractive yarn like Clinton (whom I do like, incidentally), but expressing truth with powerful conviction.

I'll have to think about the other categories.

phew... that's an interesting question.

Politicians: None, they're all crooked
Celebs: The Duke - Jimmy Stewart
Musicians: Stevie Ray - Elvis

Susan B Anthony, Lucretia Mott and Jane Addams. Political activists, not elected.

Actors - none

Musicians - Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison. Anyone who has passed on who could write stuff that disturbed the establishment.

Yet another vote for Roosevelt, and Aneurin Bevan, who's probably the greatest politician the labour party ever had, and exactly the sort of leader they badly need now.

As for actors, I'd have Bruce Lee and River Pheonix. Everybody else I can think of lived to a ripe old age before passing, whereas they both had a bit (or even a lot) of untapped potential. Everybody, quite rightly, talks about how stupidly young Lee's son died, but his dad was cut down at a point where he was on the rise as well, and it would have been very interesting to see what he'd have done if he'd had another twenty or thirty years of his career.

The two musicians I'd pick are both guitarists, the most obvious one anybody could think of and Danny Whitten out of Crazy Horse. If Whitten hadn't died of an overdose, Neil Young's career might have taken a very different turn in the '70s, and he was a good writer himself. I'd also take Charles Shaar Murray's line about Jimi Hendrix: he wasn't washed up when he died (you only have to listen to Angel to recognise that), and might have gone on to far greater things if he'd lived a bit longer.

Ronald Reagan and Teddy Roosevelt.

For actors, probably have to echo John Candy and Chris Farley.

For musicians.... Definitely black Michael Jackson. Freddy mercury too.

Sally Field isn't dead. I'm glad I checked on that!
