Root What Do I Have Now?

Metajetta

Lurker
I hate starting with what I fear is a really dumb question.

My husband rooted my SF on Saturday, and there was much confusion about what files to use, etc. I had done a lot of reading but have no experience with the vocabulary, though as a former tech writer I pick up stuff pretty fast (I also tend to blah blah in case you hadn't noticed already - LOL!). DH, on the other hand, had never rooted a device before, but is a career programming geek.

So I knew I wanted to replace the horror that was my current Samsung experience (2.1) plain Android and whatever the latest Superclean (Froyo) out there was, and voodoo.

My husband on the other hand was stymied by the variety of files, versions, guides, and after two hours of troubleshooting I'm not exactly sure I have what I wanted.

SammyPhone is definitely running 2.2x, and that with barely a hiccup. I'm thrilled with most of it. But I've got some doubts we actually flashed Superclean? My clues:

  • I had changed Bing to Google before the root somehow (but I've forgotten now). I'm back to Bing and can't get rid of it. Doesn't SC unbing me?
  • Still a disturbing amount of bloatware. Actually, I don't think any of it is gone.
  • Tried to follow a guide for SC phone to take advantage of a feature and it didn't match.

Where do I find this information about what this device is running now?

If it's not quite what I wanted, I'll be back with questions on how to fix it. Hope you don't mind!! I really enjoyed putting my phone back together and don't mind going through this again only with me behind the wheel this time. :D

Sounds like you guys odin'd the stock EB01 file on your phone instead of the latest SC rom to me. If you had put Superclean on there wouldn't be any bloat on the phone. Lemme ask this, when you pull down the notification screen, does it say "Verizon Wireless" or "SC 2.9.1"?

Oops. Definitely Verizon.

Okay, I'm starting a new thread. Thank you!
