What do the little "1's" mean next to the contact name?

Having a hard time figuring this out. Every once and while I will notice a little "1" next to a contact's name, what does this mean?

Usually means they have updated their facebook status or some other status.

It also does this when you have a missed call from that person

Hmmm very odd. I just checked a contact and I have neither a missed call and they have not updated their facebook status. Weird.

^^ One of these, usually if no missed call then it is some sort of status change they did (facebook, gmail, a suggestion to link to either one, etc.)
