What do you think of the "must use your real name" policy?

I seem to recall of post of yours somewhere where you explained how you arrived at your username and why it benefits you. I can't find it so you're free to say it didn't exist.

I see you're still KENNECTED . at g+ -- how soon before they block your account?

My point was, my memory was that you weren't motivated out of fear, and you're not using your real name either - so I therefore found the question incomprehensible.

BTW - quite a bit of this was discussed at - http://androidforums.com/lounge/389326-thoughts-anonymity-internet.html

I clear this up for you. I use this very name because its associated with my blog, facebook and all my social networks, which have a huge history, prior to the creation of Google+.

You're correct, I am not afraid to use my real name.

By the way, when they pulled me from g+ they also said that I am going to lose my Reader and Picasa access.

Unless I give my real name.

Boy howdy, they sure taught me a lesson alright.

That sucks :( I dunno WTF google is on about with all this. It's such a joke. I was excited for G+. But this kinda stuff could kill it before it learns to walk.

This is the sole reason people aren't taking it very seriously (imho)

Hey Early, I think I can help you.

Go here to generate a complete name, address, profile, email address, and other information.

Generate a Random Name - Fake Name Generator

Here is my new profile. I selected the Igbo name set and my location is somewhere in France:

Chibuzo Onwubiko
39, rue de la Mare aux Carats
34070 MONTPELLIER

Seriously, I have a few questions. I am Bob Maxey so I think I am safe. Fake name all the same. I can see 'EarlyMon' being viewed as a fake name. So what if you become Horatio Smith or John Smythe? Do these services that demand fake names actually check you out? Naw, did not think so.

Would my new name be flagged? I mean who would actually name their kid, "Chibuzo?"

PS: It is interesting to note just how many name generators are on the web. I have seen generators for business names, book titles, product names, mission statements, and lots more.

Yeah, I thought of numerous and humorous identities for this.

My favorite was the part of the notice that said I had to use the name everyone knows me by in real life, not a nickname.

The person that thought that up has never once colored outside the lines and irons their underpants.

So, I decided to just tell the whole truth and say my name is Earl LeMon.

It's now under review.

Yeah, I am expecting to be ejected.

I just looked and I haven't been shut down yet. I don't know if I would care if they deleted my account cause I hardly ever look at it anyway. I'm not a social networking type anyway.I have a facebook account that I hardly ever look at too. The only friends I have on it is family members.

Got a warning the other day. Changed my ID slightly but still not my name. If this is not accepted I think I may just press the suicide button.

I have had that fakenamegenerator link bookmarked for some time. I find it useful for school reports :)

Also, I don't really have a problem with using my real name. I only add actual friends to these things anyway.

LOL

Privacy concerns? Go ahead and try to search for me on Google or Google+. You won't find me.

There are options in the Privacy settings to hide you from search. Use them.

Alternatively, put your "real name" but only use the first initial of your last name. James G or something. That makes it even more difficult to find you (if you for some reason didn't turn all the privacy settings up to "invisible.")

allow me to resurrect this thread from the dead.....

I dont have a problem, however google does. I'm using my real name, but have PCDEBB as my middle name, so it's easier for people to find me. My account is on the chopping block because of this. and there's some silly antics in the background about this that is making me unhappy. am I overreacting? probably, but it's the principle in this.

The problem would be I don't HAVE a Google+ account, nor do I want one. If someone buys an Android phone and wants access to market, but doesn't want social networking - then what?

I'm hoping that Google leaves Gmail and Blogger accounts alone.

I do have Twitter and FB, and keep getting emails as to why I haven't posted or even logged in.

Yahoo has a new CEO, they might be implementing this, too.

I do not consider PCDEBB to be an example of a real name. I am Bob Maxey, that is a real name. Not my legal name, but it is a name most people that know me well use. My brother uses it as does his family. My mother and father and granny; uncles, grandparents have never used by real name.
