I under stand that out unlocks features and ecy. But when you put 2.3 on the phon, does it change your number,...and I read that you cannot read txt messages. Can anyone clear things up for me please.thanks!

It does not change your number and you can still read text messages. Some of the ROMs don't allow you to receive MMS, but that's an issue they're supposedly working on. I love my rooted phone. 2.3 is a nice upgrade.

Thx, what guide/site did you use to root your phone?
Can urs recieve MMS messages?
Thanks!

To put in simplistic terms, rooting gives you access to the parts of the OS the manufacturer and provider don't want you to touch. It allows you the ability to remove bloatware that >>>may<<< negatively affect performance. Generally, on it's own it is completely innocuous and should not affect the operation of the phone. The next step is to install a alternate recovery which in turn will allow you to easily replace system files and use alternate roms, radios and kernals. This is where you can see great improvement but also risk frustration.

Good places to learn

LG Devices @ xda-developers - not Optimus V specific
Optimus - Android Development

Since I don't have an Optimus V and my mom has yet to let me root hers, I can't give you specific recommendations. Seek and you shall fine. Have fun!!!

MMS does not work for me and I'm using Zefies cm7 build. It's an issue that's being worked on. I'm not sure if any of the other 2.3 ROMs are having this issue. Anyone else know for sure?

You're phone will not have any problems with MMS if you only root. It only depends on the ROM you choose. I suggest researching your ROM before using it. Also make sure you make a nandroid backup so if anything goes wrong or you don't like the ROM you chose you can always get back to where you started!
